We recently purchased this product to seal a gas tank in a 1970 Chevy pick-up truck. This truck had been sitting a long time. Once we put a new engine in and got the truck on the road, we had constant problems with rust coming through the fuel line. Although we had an in-line fuel filter in place just before the carb, we were having to literally change it every month. We knew we had to do something when the fuel pump clogged up and left us stranded.

The fuel tank sealer was quite easy to use. We took the tank out, emptied it, then washed it out and let it dry. We then taped up the sending unit hole, poured in the sealer after a good shake and stir, then rolled the tank around to make sure we covered the entire inside surface. We waited the 96 hours as suggested on the instructions before we re-installed the tank and filled it up with gas.

All fuel related problems have gone away. The fuel filter now stays clean, and the truck is running great. I have used POR 15 on my classic car and truck restoration projects for years. POR makes fine products you can believe in, and this fuel tank sealer is no exception. I wouldn't hesitate to use anything they make.

The merchant I bought it from through Amazon shipped it right away. No complaints there either. I hope my experience with this product and merchant will help you decide. Good luck on your project!

I fiddled with purple stuff, yellow stuff and other stuff until I used POR-15.
Just for kicks I poured a very thin puddle on a surface and let it cure.
This stuff dries to a crazy strong film that is impervious to everything AND there is no worry about anything blowing up.
In addition there is no need to get internal surfaces shiny clean. In fact the directions recommend leaving tight rust so the product has something to which it can bond.
Nothing better.......nothing easier!

OK, so let me warn you I am one of those guys who doesn't always follow the rules exactly. I was sealing two 5 gallon fuel tanks from some off road equipment that leaked around some of the bottom seams. I first cleaned them of internal rust by putting a handful of small bolts into the tanks and shook them for a while to knock off any loose rust. Worked well. Then I degreased them with a powerful commercial degreaser. Then I soaked them with muriatic acid for several hours to get rid of most of the remaining surface rust. Then I did a phosphate conversion coating using a Dupont autobody product I use when painting cars. Remember to wash out thoroughly between steps and dry completely. The end result was a nice clean somewhat rough surface that had the typical color of phospate treated steel. It was ready. I then followed the instructions on the can and poured in the POR. Moved it all around to coat the tanks. They tell you not to allow it to puddle in the tank and to pour off the excess. Well, when I did that, I felt the coating was too thin on the inside of the tanks. So I did a second coat after waiting for a little while. That really did the trick. Also, the caution against puddling didn't stop me from allowing some POR to flow into the depressions where the tank had been crimped. It filled the seam area nicely. Everything hardened nicely. I gave the whole thing a week to cure in a warm area before loading up with diesel. The end result was a very nicely coated tank interior, good coverage, sealed up seams and no leaks. I checked to see if the POR hardened where it had puddled, and yes it was hard as a rock. So I broke their rules, but I clearly got a better result. Also they put the fear of death into you not to save the excess.Read more ›

I bought the 1 quart can of this sealer. Followed directions carefully. I bought the tank cleaner and rust cleaner/remover locally as they were much cheaper. There was sufficient product to apply 2 coats to my Allis B 13 gallon tank. It does a fantastic job. The tank sounds much more solid and has been leak free since application. This is a much better product than some of the others offered. Less messy and certainly not nearly as odiferous as the ones that seem to be fiberglass resin based. Actually looks like silver metallic paint. It hardens to a rock hard plastic like material.

I'd recommend it to all. Just be sure to use the tank cleaner and the rust inhibitor cleaner as directed before you coat the tank. Skip no steps and you will be very pleased.

If one follows directions this product works extremely well . The key is getting everything really clean and free of contamination , once that's accomplished application is really easy . Just keep it moving an coating an pour off any excess to prevent puddling .
Bottom line :The Stuff WORKS

the factory mislabeled a bunch of cans, and I got black general purpose instead of silver tank liner. After being on hold for long time since they found out I was using in an aircraft, they came back and confessed that the black product is EXACTLY the same chemistry as the silver, but only slightly less viscous. Good to know after I poured 2 of the 4 cans I needed into a 85 gallon wing tank. Major crisis time until that was resolved. Why pay more then for the silver? I won't again.
