I've been using Bob Smith epoxy for years, and it's never let me down. You can find this private labeled under just about every hobby store name you can think up, but if you see the familiar red and black bottle art, turn the bottle around and you'll see the line "Dist. by BOB SMITH INDUSTRIES, Atascadero, Calif." under the directions section on the back of the bottles.

These bottles have measurement markings on the side, which are handy for knowing just how much epoxy you've used on a project or exactly how much you have left. The included caps are simple but work well for keeping the solutions from leaking out. With this being a two-part solution that doesn't activate until mixed, it's also got a great shelf life. I've also got a couple of bottles that I opened over 3 years ago and still work just as well as the day I got them.

With this being 30 Minute Epoxy, you get a much longer working time than you would with a quick-cure 5 Minute Epoxy or a mid-cure 15 Minute Epoxy. I personally use it for joining R/C airplane wings and fuselages to give me plenty of time to adjust and make sure I've gotten everything level. It's still a good idea to have all your pieces laid out and ready to put in place before mixing the the hardener and the resin, but this will give you ample time after joining your pieces to make sure they are lined up exactly like you want them. After about 20 to 25 minutes, it will start getting a good deal more viscous, and by 27 to 28 minutes, it will be pretty tacky. By the time 30 minutes hits, it's more like a sticky goo; it will still stretch if it pull at it, but it will formed a bit of a skin on any parts that have been left exposed to air and have lost its gap-filling abilities.

This stuff sets at or above 70 degrees or around 22 degrees C. It does poorly at that temp, and becomes a fireball or hot mass of goo when mixed in larger quantities. It worked for my needs, but the best Epoxies for wood are Steve Smith Epoxies. This was fine for guitar case repairs, and resealing power supplies, but this is all I would ever use it for. A good slow set for me is over 1 hour if not 2 hours. This is a decent product at a decent price for the uses listed above. It did flake off the mixing sticks, which I found disturbing. It is semi flexible after curing, but not impact or shock resistant.

I ordered this to start working on building a hobby RC plane with my daughter. While that project has yet to start, I was able to use this in a few other ways and determined that this is a solid product. A minor recommendation for the manufacturer would be to add instructions in the package. I did not follow any instructions but 'guessed' that I would have to use equal quantities of both on a flat, preferrably metalic surface and mix the contents of the two bottles before applying on the surface to be glued together. Fixed a broken microwave plastic handle, a wooden chair and a vinyl window exterior j-channel. Give it some good time and practice a bit before you use it on items of value.

I've used this to fill small tubes with an embedded cotter pin -- 100 at a time -- so the slow cure feature was helpful. Even with the slow cure, mixing up more than about an ounce at a time seems to accelerate the cure speed as it makes its own internal heat, so making more smaller batches is better if you need prolonged working time. Also works well using the glue syringes that Amazon sells if you need to get very precise placements into smaller areas.

I was happy to find this slow-cure epoxy in relatively large bottles (4.5 OZ each, 9 OZ total) and it worked great for my project which needed some extra assembly time. I mixed 2 OZ batches (1 OZ each of epoxy and hardener) and found that the product set up in about 15 minutes in my 72 degree shop. By putting a little less hardener in I could increase the working time to 20 minutes before the epoxy began to set up and thicken.

It was just the right consistency after mixing - what I would call "just barely brushable". I used a 1" china bristle brush to apply the mixed epoxy to the wood pieces I was joining. If it had been any thicker it would have been difficult to brush on. I noticed that the epoxy was a bit more viscous than the hardener while I was mixing it.

Within 4 hours it had set up hard and was no longer tacky. After 24 hours it was very hard and I was able to sand away the excess with a power sander no problem. The epoxy sanded nicely and didn't gum up the sand paper. I would definitely use this again.

I havn't found a lot of difference in quality with other brand names but do avoid all quick set epoxies. You'll have a better bond the longer you wait with slow epoxy. You get a lot of glue for your money with this purchase.

It's supposed to be extremely strong. I have found through testing that it has significantly less bond strength than JB Weld ClearWeld (at least on wood and plastic, which is what I tested).

It's supposed to have 30 minutes working time. Try 10 to 15 minutes, which is barely better than the 5 minutes epoxies which you can usually for for 10 minutes if you are careful to keep them from heating up.
