***Video Review - I wish Amazon would let me upload a higher quality video, but it won't***

I have 4 female rats at the moment and this has been the best investment for them and me. I've had this cage for about 9 months. It is absolutely the best cage I have ever owned. Even small rats will be fine in this cage. Mine are all medium sized. Putting this thing together took a while, but it was not hard, just requires some patience. Yes it's expensive, but well worth the price if you ware going to continue to have more pets use it. I foresee having many generations of rats use this cage.

I like other reviewers purchased mine from somewhere other than Amazon because their price was about $100 more than everywhere else. I would have gladly purchased it from Amazon if it was a more reasonable price.

Pros:

1. Solid construction, built to last years!

2. Easy to clean, removable trays. I use a very mild cleaning solution that is natural to wash the cage itself monthly. I maintain the trays as clean as i can without taking them out until they should be hand washed. I take them out and wash the them usually every 4-5 days or so.

3. Excellent wide swinging doors. The doors open all the way so that you can remove the trays for cleaning. My rats LOVE to climb on the doors when they are open. I'll open all the doors so that they can climb around and get some exercise.

4. Perfect height/size: this cage is a great size (yes its big). I love that they have so much room to do what they want in it. You can hang all kinds of hammocks and/or toys from the tray supports. I have a huge wheel that my rats love to use that fits wonderfully inside the first level. at any given time they have 1-4 hammocks/beds or accessories in their cage.

I've had other cages in the past but this is by far the easiest to clean. Most cages have very small doors that are impossible to maneuver around and plastic shelves that clip on that you have to fight with to remove for cleaning. The fact that the double wide doors open up all the way and the shelves aren't clip-ons makes cleaning go a lot faster. I own 2 of the 63" tall Critter Nations (one for male rats, the other for females) and to deep clean both of them it takes about 3 hours. That may sound like a lot of time, but part of that time is just me waiting for their fleece and beds/hammocks to finish drying. When I got my first two rats, I got them an All Living Things Luxury Home for rats and it took me 3 hours to clean, and that's only one cage and it is leagues smaller than the double Critter Nation. Most of that time was spent wrestling with the stupid plastic clip on shelves that never seemed to want to go on or come off and trying to become a professional contortionist to put things in / take things out through the small cage doors.

This cage is also fun/easy to accessorize. Since the shelves have three height adjustments, it gives you a lot of control over where things can go, you can attach hammocks and other things to the bottom of the trays. You can also add additional lava ledges and bird perches for more vertical climbing. I took off one star partially because the double wide doors do make it almost impossible to put lava ledges anywhere but towards the front of the cage, unless you have someone else helping you. Ultimately though it's not a big deal.

As others have said, there's a chance your box will come damaged and the cage itself is a pain to put together.

We are really happy with this cage. We purchased it for our two Chinchillas. I have had them for 7 years now and I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on cages. This cage seems really sturdy and I like the different levels and space it provides them. I also like that you can cut off access between the top and bottom since my chins do not get along. We made a small modification to this cage because the pans are so shallow. We went to our local hardware store and had them cut Plexiglass panels for us to fit in the walls and front of the cage. They are six inches tall to create deep walls for the cage. We secured it with bolts and a washer and used a drummel tool to make sure there were no sharp edges. It looks great and i couldn't be happier.

Very sturdy and the doors make it so much easier to clean than my old cage. Use a cement mixing tub from Home Depot if you want a really deep cage pan. I don't know the item number, but there are only a couple, look for the one that's the same dimensions as the cage, then trim 1/2" of plastic around the rim and it fits perfect.

The cage is well worth the money you'll pay for it ANYWHERE. ELSE. ON. THE. INTERNET. BUT. HERE.

Unfortunately, Amazon has decided to charge over $100.00 more than the nearest competitor. I would have NO idea why.

So I purchased mine elsewhere, despite being a looooong time Prime customer.

The cage itself is perfect for rats (Or, I assume, Chinchillas, Degus, Gerbils, etc.). The Ferret Nation was what many of us who like to spoil our rats used, but the wire spacing was a full inch, and only larger rats, or male rats could usually be housed safely in them.

The Critter Nation is nearly identical to the FN, however, the wire spacing is 1/2 inch, and the wires themselves run horizontally, PERFECT for climbing ratties.

SUPER easy to put together, very spacious (be warned, these cages are MASSIVE), with plenty of adjustable shelf locations, and room for toys, hammocks, and goodies.

The manufacturer is exceptional, with a no questions asked one year warranty on all parts included with, in, or on the cage.

I can't recommend the cage highly enough. Amazon I'm a little disappointed in.
