I purchased this expecting to have problems with fluctuations after reading reviews and complaints about Exo Terra in general from all over the internet. I tested this out against multiple other hygrometers and found it to be accurate to within 1 degree temperature-wise and 2% humidity-wise. I look that it attaching with a suction-cup for easy placement and the display is outside the cage. It makes seeing it possible without having to open the doors or climb to that perfect angle.

The only complaint I have is that the display is not clear. You must read it straight on or else it like an old type of calculator display where all of the lines seem lit up at the wrong angle. This is one more reason I am so happy that the display sits outside of the cage.

With the CDs it arrived on time, but it was dead on arrival.
When it arrived, I pulled the plastic separator from the battery to allow connection. The display said 10% humidity, so I breathed on the sensor and it went up. Then I left it. It returned to 10%, BUT another hygrometer next to it continued to register 50%. The next morning the display was black. I concluded (incorrectly it turns out) that the battery was dead. Off to Radio Shack where they tested the battery, it was OK. Reinsert, and 10% again. Inside 20 seconds display was dark. Reinsert battery for a repeat.
Unusable. I expect Amazon will replace it, and if the replacement works, I'll rewrite this review.
I have been quite happy with stuff I buy here.

It sure is a nice compact unit, but if you really need to know the moisture/humidity, this is not the instrument. Humidity registers anywhere from 25 to 40 percentage units off. If the relative humidity (RH) is 50% on a known instrument, this unit will read 15% to 25% RH. It is inexpensive but you "gets whats you pays for"

The thermometer is accurate and works fine.
The hygrometer (humidity) function worked accurately for only a week. It now shows 20-30% lower than actual humidity.
Cant read the display from an angle, Must be viewed from directly in front.
This was a replacement for an identical item. It worked no better.,
Save your bucks. This is junk.

Seriously, I spent $16 on this???

Save your money and buy the indoor/outdoor thermo/hygro from walmart for $12.

The hygrometer was 20% off. I ended up causing so much humidity, I was having drips coming off of the side of the tank!
Living in california where the humidity is 16-30% normally, I just thought that's what 70% humidity looked like. Decided to check the thing and it was reading 50% in my house -_-
My tank now sits at 60% normally with no condensation.

I cannot recommend this as failed within two months of getting it. I found that the screen is not touching the contacts properly, If you press on it the screen illuminates again. I put a wad paper in the case to press on the connection, and that worked for a while, but then it stopped again. I will try to fix it again since I have it, but look elsewhere for yours.

I purchased this to go with an Exo Terra terrarium with Exo Terra light hood - as it is designed to slide into the groove on the light hood and goes through the cable ports in the top of the terrarium. It looks very slick! I am very happy with the way it looks. When I first got it the readings appeared correct. But within a couple of weeks the humidity reading dropped significantly, though there was no change in-cage. I tried a few things, testing it in different situations, and it is definitely reading incorrectly. It does seem to be giving an accurate temperature reading though. I generally like Exo Terra branded products and find them to be of high quality, and love how this is designed to work with the other products, but it has two functions, and doesn't do one of them correctly, so unfortunately this one is a fail for me.

Overall a poor quality item. They will usually work for a few weeks to a few months, then the humidity sensor will usually fail and it will just read 10% all of the time. Some of the units will last for one to two years without issue. Others will fail shortly after taking them out of the package. There are other better, and less expensive, items available that measure the same two parameters.
