3.3-Inch AMOLED Display
The S9 boasts a 16 million color, 3.3-inch AMOLED display with a 480 x 272 pixel resolution. Thanks to the low-power display technology, the screen is viewable from virtually any angle. It looks great in the dark and even in direct sunlight. AMOLED turns electric signals into video 1,000 times faster than the speed of conventional LCDs, leaving no ghost images while playing motion pictures.

Intuitive Touchscreen Interface
Cowon S9's interface has been optimized for its durable anti-scratch touchscreen, with gesture recognition features like zoom-able album art, pictures, and text; TrueType fonts for clear visibility at any zoom level; and more.

Video Player

This is so cool. It's my second Cowon MP3/Video player. The first was the rather clunky, thick, square D2. I bought it for it's highly rated audio quality. It also played video at high resolution.
This unit surpasses the D2 in all respects, (except one).
The audio quality is just as excellent. Best of any MP3 player in my opinion.
The OLED display is just incredible. Put it next to a iPod touch, and you'll see what I mean. OLED screens have no backlights, each pixel is actively lit. Blacks are deep, brights are scintillating. The refresh rate rate is also much more rapid than LCD. So fast moving video does not ghost.
The user interface is much improved over the D2 which was all touch screen. This is a touch screen, but has top buttons for several common functions.
-I just wish it had a SD card slot. That was one of the reasons I bought my D2. So I could upgrade the memory capacity with cheap SD memory cards. My S9 had 8GB, which is adequate.

This mp3 player is very good, and is definitely worth the money. When looking for an mp3 player, i dod a lot of research, and know pretty much everything that is desireable on an mp3 player. This mp3 player, being the best one i found meets or exceeds my expectations in everything except the following:

-It is almost impossible to create a playlist on the device. I still haven't figured out how, but i read online a way how to do it, and it was so complicated i have yet to try it.
-There is no sleep timer. You cannot set the mp3 player to turn off on its own, which can lead to draining out the battery.
-Navigation is somewhat awkward. its not the standard left/right/up/down arrows, and it takes some time to get used to.

If none of these cons are major setbacks for you, i highly recommend buying this player.

This is my second MP3 player. My first was a Meizu miniplayer that was good. Then I got a Creative Labs Xmod and connected it all through my Yamaha amp with Paradigm speakers. I was on top of the world. The Xmod incredibly enhanced the MP3 downloads to full sound. Eventually my Meizu player began to have some minor problems. I searched the net to see what was out there and found the rave reviews on the Cowon S9. Wincing at some complaints about its user interface I bit the bullet and bought it from Amazon. It arrived very quickly (standard shipping) I have NOT found the interface to be difficult to grasp. The screen is truly vibrant as reviewed. After very easily downloading 320 songs all at once I began to listen. I was very impressed. Then I switched on the BBE JetEffect set on MP3 enhancement (one of 30 some preset enhancement settings). I was no longer just impressed, I was truly amazed, grinning from ear to ear. The sound was at least twice as good as it had been with the Meizu using the Xmod. Every nuance and instrument came through clearly, distinctly, and with rich bass, clear vocals. I'm not a bouncy kid, I'm an old fart not easily taken in anymore, but this was a new sound experience. Later when listening to Natasha Beddingfield's Pocketful of Sunshine I decided I'd really never heard music that clear, rich, and distinct. She sings quickly in that song, and unlike I'd ever heard it before, each word was articulate without any annoying scratchy S's or any distortion of any sort at all. OK, so this doesn't have Wifi and some other bells, whistles, and bangles some other players have, if your intent is to listen to music and perhaps watch a video I don't think you could do any better at any price than this Cowon S9. I'm still staying up too late just to listen to my music again, and burning up my Ares Vista downloading like a fool. Love it.
ADDENDUM: I have since discovered that through the first option under "settings" you can create user profiles for the JetEffect, making your own combination of equilizer, BBE+, settings to tweak the sound exactly the way you want. It's a little daunting at first, but with a little time you can really improve the sound beyond any of the preset options. Here's a site that is full of helpful setting combination suggestions from users: [...]. Audiophiles can have a field day meltdown.
