Yes this product is simple and expensive enough to raise some eyebrows. But this tool is very well designed. It keeps the guitar from sliding and positions it at a nice angle for maintenance. In storage mode, the mat rolls up into the clear plastic tube and takes up very little space. The bottom cover doubles as a storage compartment for your hex wrenches, string winder, and feeler guages.

But the real reason I give this product five stars is because it allows me to work on my guitars while keeping them in perfect condition. That increases their resale value, so the tool pays for itself. And it gives me a lot of pleasure to have the right tools for the job. With the right tools, I enjoy working on my guitars almost as much as playing them. While I hear what those complaining of the high cost are saying, I am used to paying higher prices for good tools and I think this qualifies as a good tool. I used it to put new pickups in and setup my Squier Stratocaster last night without damaging my guitar. Without this tool, I don't think I would have been so lucky.

The one thing I do not like about this kit is that the neck support is non adjustable. You cannot adjust it to an angle that would allow it to be placed anywhere along the neck since it sits straight up. It's a little too tall too :( The mat is fine, it's the neck support that could a use a little more design work.

I don't own this, but have had my hands on one. While it's functional, I find it a bit expensive for what it is. For around the same money, I went with the Jim Dunlop neck rest and an OP/TECH Neotech large mat. I feel like this combination is much more versatile. The Jim Dunlop neck rest flips to accommodate your guitar neck in either direction (right side up or upside down) whereas the Fender version does not. The Fender version allows you to remove the neck support, but then you have a mat with a hole in it. The OP/TECH Neotech mat has no hole, and when you aren't working on your guitar, it can be used for many other purposes. Also, the color of the OP/TECH Neotech mat is a light grey/wheat color, which allows you to see parts laying on it more easily than the black mat of the Fender version. The OP/TECH Neotech mat also comes with a nice nylon/mesh storage bag with a strap - a better storage solution than the Fender branded version. Lastly, the OP/TECH Neotech mat is anti-static. I'm not certain that the Fender mat isn't anti-static, but I didn't see anywhere saying that it was. Again, the Fender mat is serviceable, but I'd recommend considering the route I went, as I feel it serves the same purpose, but is a better solution for guitar repair than the Fender mat, and is much more versatile and can be used for many more applications. For the slight difference in cost, for me, it was the clear choice.

These are great tools for changing strings and performing other guitar maintenance. I would prefer if the mat were a little longer, as it is just the right size for a dreadnaught acoustic if you put the heel of the neck right up to the cradle. You could probably make something comparable for much less money, but this comes in a plastic tube, with storage for a string winder and other small tools, like allen wrenches. Overall, it's useful, but it would be a 5-star rating if it were a little less expensive and had a larger mat for the guitar.

Way over priced, but I works as described. It's easily cut. I sat a guitar upright in the mat and the end pin for the strap almost cut through the material. I ended up laying an old, clean towel down over the mat portion.

This made working on guitars much easier I like the no slip foam it does not leave marks and cleans well with a brush.

I like the way it folds up in the included tube but the storage compartment will not hold my string winder by about 1/4". I have no real complaints about it. It works but it feels a little flimsy. The roll-up feature is ok, but is not necessary for me. It seems overpriced for what it is.

As has been pointed out, it is expensive for what it is. It does work well and the mat is more than adequate as far as size, but it is very thin. As one reviewer noted, if it didn't say Fender on it the price would most likely be about $12. It probably cost a buck or two to make.
