This is stated to be an instrument mic, sort of a "little brother" to the much more expensive SM81. It is also a very good mic for a singer with a low bass voice. A professional singer had recommended the SM81, but being an amateur singer it was hard to spend that much. This mic is better than most of us can perform, so that is not a problem. It also has a fairly flat frequency response at the low end which is good.

The only issues are, if you are also announcing songs, singers, etc. it is not a great speaking mic, and it needs a pop filter to keep the "s" and "p" sounds from being a problem.

really really good sound, they're shure alright! the only detail you're to know is that the position (distance, angles, fret, etc) where to put the mic (if you are to amplify an acoustic or classic guitar) is veeeery important, unless you're in a tight noise-controlled environment.

I use 2 of these overhead for recording my drum set, they sound great and capture my crash, hihat and ride cymbals perfectly. I haven't used the batteries to power it, only phantom power on a cheapo samson mixer and it always works fine. Ive had 2 of these for about a year now with no faults.

So far have used it as a microphone for my high hat. Captures a nice crisp sound, just what you want from a high hat. Now occasionally on closing the high hat, there's a little bit of a thud, but I believe this is more from external factors (i.e. hollow floor, positioning of mic in relation to the edge of the high hats), not from the mic itself. Another thing is it's plenty sensitive, as it picks up noise from the high hat when I lift my foot to open it all the way, the sudden stop when it opens creates a faint ring.

So with that said, very good mic, and worth the money. May take some fenaggling of it's position depending on how you're going to use it in order to compensate for it's sensitivity.

I've used this mic a few times to amplify an acoustic guitar at jazz shows. We typically play at noisy places, and this mic does a great job of minimizing feedback and isolating my instrument. I like it a lot so far.

I have two of these, and have used them with portable equipment for solo vocal, solo instrument, choir and organ recordings. This mic has good frequency and directional characteristics for the price. When placed a little too far away from a solo instrument, the outcome is a little thin but easily compensated on the mixing board or in post-processing. It's pretty solidly built, mine have been dropped a few times and they seem fine. Not sure I could have found anything better for the same price. The option to run with battery is a nice convenience.

Very nice mic in terms of how much gain you can add without worrying about feedback due to the polar pattern. The switch is very benificial. However, the clarity is not as good as the beta series.

Recently went from playing my D18 plugged in to using this condenser mic instead. What a difference! The sound is pure, the mic is hot and there are no feedback issues.
