I have had a Yamaha sj-180 for ten years now and I thought I was due for an upgrade. I did the research and alot of reading on acoustic guitars in my price range and the seagull shined out as the logical choice. I went to my local seagull dealer and explained to the owner what I had in mind for sound. He told me the best thing I could do was play them all and decide which I Iiked the best. He put three guitar stands around me, sat me down and put an s6 ceder original, s6+spruce, and a coastline in the stands and gave me an entourage in my lap. After over an hour of playing them(I had nowhere to go), I decided that they all sounded really good, but weren't reaching out and grabbing me. I then went a little high for my budget and grabbed the Maritime SWS SG. After another hour of playing and comparing I had my arms and legs wrapped around the maritime and I wasn't letting go. The ceder tops were great, but just not commanding enough to me when I wanted to play hard. The spruce tops of the less expensive models were brighter and almost too bright. But the hard wood mahogany sides and back with the obviously higher quality spruce top just had it all in the Maritime. I was absolutely in awe and in love with the sound. So I took some deep breaths, got my checkbook out of the car, and made what I now know to be one of the best purchases of my life - along with a good humidifier and case. Here I am weeks later and I am so so happy that I got the Maritime SWS. I will forget the extra money I spent, but I will have this awesome guitar for the rest of my life. And it will only get better.

I've had this guitar for about 1 year and am still loving it. I'm what you consider a gear head, always looking for the next guitar, pedal, amp. But this guitar has stopped me from looking for the next acoustic. Everytime I get the itch to go buy something else, I just spend some time with it and fall back in love. For me, the set up out of the box was good. The head stock may look a little wonky, but the engineers are right-- this thing holds it's tuning. The neck is thick. If you've never played a Seagull, borrow a friend's or try it out in the store first if you can. Otherwise, think chunky like a Classical guitar neck, a 1950's Kay, or a beefier Les Paul '50s profile neck. I have relatively small hands (for a guy), but just prefer the thick neck. The sound is full and very balanced from bass to treble, not bass-boomy like a Martin dreadnaught if that's what you're looking for. If you're considering other import all-solid-wood guitars, the Asian ones may be cheaper, but this one sounds better. If you're considering an all-solid-wood USA made guitar, and don't care about your headstock saying Martin or Gibson, your guitar dollar can go further if you look across our Northern border. For the price difference you could buy the Seagull S-12 too.

I have a Seagull Maritime SWS and I also have a Martin HD 28. I play them equally as much and I find the sound from the Seagull to be just as if not more balanced and it is 1/4 of the price. There is simply not a better guitar for the money. I would buy it again and again.

This is a solid top spruce and solid mahogany back and sides guitar. It is a great guitar, a keeper. I purchased mine second hand, but would have gone for this deal on Amazon as the price is so good. Where else can you get this kind of quality and build for such a low price. Mine was in need of a professional set-up as the action did seem a tad high. The difference was amazing. A few years ago I purchased a Martin D35, its a great guitar, i love to play it but I have to say I can hardly tell the difference now that the set-up has been done on this Seagull. The work cost $85 but is essential to get the best out of these astonishingly good value, well made guitars. I will never sell mine. Lastly, for the beginner guitarist, buy this solid wood guitar, you will never need another, and nothing else compares for the price at this spec. Well done Seagull!

I did quite a bit of research before making this purchase. After receiving this guitar and playing it for a brief period I am convinced I made the right choice. The sounds across the board are bright and filled with a tonal quality similar to what you would expect from a Martin or Guild.
The whole guitar has been constructed with great care and the quality of every part is excellent. It has to be your personal choice but I can't imagine being more happy with any other instrument...............I will have this in my lap for years to come.

This guitar may not look like much. With its semi gloss finish, and the choice of wood used, it looks retro. But to a true musician, does that matter? This guitar was designed with only your auditory senses in mind. The depth of the sound, and warmth, and astonishing resonance of this piece of 'musical ingenuity in physical form' is breathtaking.

This guitar ages to sound even better, and is the best guitar I have ever played. It will make a great first, and last guitar (don't be fooled by the price).

You can have fishman pickups installed for around $200 to make this an electric at your local music shop without compromising the structure of the sound chamber.

All and all this guitar should cost twice as much as it does. Its a real treat.
