While the articulation on this model is impressive in some ways (the turn of the waist and torso separately), I find the model difficult to pose as the joints tend to stick a bit and the extremities do not accommodate some very simple gestures. Also have experienced joints being weak and not holding an arm in place, for example. I was expecting a bit more for the price.

Oh no....
I didn't even take it out of the box before deciding I would return this..this...thing...this monstrosity.
It is literally a dude's head attached the a barbie's body.
What went wrong? This thing is NOT what is shown on the box OR in the photos on Amazon. It is completely wrong. The breasts are much perkier and look "fake". The image shown on Amazon and on the box have a much softer, more feminine face, with natural breasts. I was excited to get this and now I can't even use it, it's not pleasing to look at.
I guess it could work for you if you need it for posing and don't care about anatomically correct, but this is not a collectible or attractive figure, all wrong. See photos for more...

While I often see the various complaints about the Art S. Buck manikins, I feel some are without warrant. Bearing in mind that manikins are intended as general guides, and good for relative proportion, they are not intended to be detailed enough for exact proportion. That is where the artist comes in. One the general proportions are worked out, the rest depends solely upon talent.
The Art S. Buck manikins are far more detailed, proportionate, and versatile than the classic wooden manikins. Yes, the stand could use improvement, they may require some inventiveness in holding the poses, and the "neutral gray" color is a bit of a curiosity. Aside from these minor inconveniences, these manikins are extremely useful, and at a reasonable cost.

i really like this model. it isn't perfectly proportioned, but neither are humans. i agree with much of the lady from virginia's review. i found the stand to be a bit bothersome, but manipulating the the stand and posing the limbs is sort of fun. no model is completely pliable or flexible. this one is pretty good. numerous poses are possible with this model and the rest can be worked out. some are just not possible; it is after all just a hard plastic model. i could cross her legs, but not so that they melded naturally or hung believably. i've found that the poses hold well. i think it's money well spent. it's certainly more helpful than the wooden, android models.

one reviewer mentioned talent; i'll mention imagination. there is no model that has the "right" fleshtone, esp. for afr. amer. that requires color mixing on the part of the artist. the same is true w afr. amer. facial features, i wouldn't pay extra for that. i'd rather play around on my own. the model's butts are flat, but i can work that out.

one of the greatest plus' of the model for me, was it's help with light and shadow. with the model, i don't have to impose on my neighbors or family for light and shadow placement.
i found the model so helpful that i purchased the male, but his feet are too darn small. i'll lenghten them.

The model is satisfactory in most respects, it definitely has more bend-ability as oppose to the classic wooden figure. However there are several things that I find wrong with this product; things such as: the head is disproportionally big, very little head-tilting is possible, the arm joints seem to be indeed too loose - so the pose doesn't hold well. Other than that I think its OK.

For the price, I absolutely love this figure. I wanted something that would help me capture more dynamic poses and dramatic lighting. I love that I don't have to look up reference photos, and that I can mold her into whatever pose I really want. The joints are great. You can make it do a lot more than I was expecting. I can even get her to stand on her own. I haven't had an issue with the arm joints.

I am a professional artist and took many live figure drawing classes. The proportions are slightly off, with a large head, but it is great for getting the general idea down! I love that it has facial features so you can see where the light would fall on the cheeks, nose, eye sockets, lips, and ears. The hands and feet have great articulation and you can get some emotional poses, and ground your image.

It is a great middle point between the wood figures (which are absolutely worthless, in my opinion) and the $300 - $600 models out there. I am so happy I could find something this awesome in my price range. The head doesn't tilt much, you can't move the fingers, and the barbie-esque hip joints are really the only things that bother me. But I love the back curve, the defined collar bones, the shoulder blades, and the toes!

Overall, I'm an illustrator and use the female figure frequently in my work, and this model is excellent for generating believable poses without having to look up references/asking a friend to pose for you. It is most valuable if you already have knowledge of the human figure, so you can flesh it out more and make it your own, but it is also great for the beginner who does not have access to a live figure.
