Another reviewer complained about this product being overly spicy while I could have used a bit more spiciness. If you do not like foods with a bite then you should take the previous review to heart and avoid this.

If you are like me, though, these are excellent out of the can. I prepare mine sauteed with garlic and olive oil, then mashed. I add a small quantity of red pepper flakes to mine to increase the spiciness, but I recommend that you try them as is before doctoring them.

For folks who are watching their nutritional intake each can contains about three half-cup servings, each of which are a reasonable 90 calories. Sodium is a reasonable 290mg, and there is zero fat or cholesterol. If you are counting carbs a serving is 14 grams. There are 7 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein in each serving, so they are a good complement to most balanced diets.

To me these merit five stars for the nutritional values (and especially the relatively low sodium content for any kind of canned beans). But nutrition is not the only factor I took into consideration: they are flavorful, have a nice balance (to my taste buds) of spiciness, and excellent texture.

Okay, I do like some heat in my food but this is pretty intense. The reality is that the beans have been marinating in this chili powder fluid for some unspecified length of time and they have really taken up all of the heat. There is no getting around it. For me, it was just too much. The taste of the beans is over powered and lost.
