This is an ethernet coupler. It provides a way to add one ethernet cable to another.
It is my understanding that it is ideal to have only a single cable to reduce noise and transmission degradation.
But this is great when you cannot easily replace a cable with a longer one, when you have two cables that together reach the length you need.

So far, I have experienced no noticeable degradation in my connection/performance with this device
It appears and feels well built (very important for ethernet connections!)

I am an IT specialist.

I am purchasing more.

Initially worked great but noticed that my desktop was intermittently showing no connection. The desktop would automatically switch to WIFI but I went through great pains to run CAT5 to my desktop. I don't want to use the WIFI. Well, I had extra CAT5 cables around and cabled directly from the router and the connection was fine but when when I went back through the coupler the problems resurfaced. I could play with connector & the signal would go in and out. If I place the connector in a certain position the connection is maintained so I have re-positioned it and for now it is working. I am planning on putting in a switch where the coupler is then it will alleviate my need for it but disappointed it does not work as advertised. As usual returning things through amazon is a pain so, I will live with it for now and toss it (and $6) when I receive the switch.

Almost a life saver. At work, where I bring my own laptop to work on, the IT guys attached the ethernet cables to the frame of the table, making it impossible to reach my laptop with the cable. Now with this adapter I can connect my own cable and be able to use my laptop anywhere I need to.

If you expected a laser light show with smoke pots and demons flying in tight circles, you will be disappointed. The inline Ethernet coupler simply couples the 8 Ethernet signals from one cable to another. That's all. If you're looking for a way to extend a cable and yanking it really hard isn't getting you the range you need, then you should look at getting a coupler...preferably this one.

I was using it to replace a switch that never seemed to reset right when we lost power and only had one connection going to it, so it was an obvious place to use a coupler. and use it I did.

I measured that a 25' cable would do the job hooking my new rec room gaming computer. While 25' was long enough, the cable was a tight stretch. The next pre-made cable was 50' and would have been way too long. I bought these couplers along with 7' patch cord. Now, I can actually move the computer around somewhat without worry.
