I ordered this after reading the other Amazon reviews. I needed more protection for hockey and snowboarding after several bad falls on my tailbone. This protector is virtually worthless for true tailbone protection, it probably provides some protection from the cold. The photos show a plumped up, thick looking pad on the bum, but the product you get is nothing more than a double layer of soft foam (less than twice the thickness of a wetsuit, thinner than a yoga mat). The small tailbone piece (decribed as "triple protection")is very tiny and barely much thicker than the rest. The girl in the ad must be 65 lbs. for this to look so big. Don't bother buying this, it is useless for true tailbone protection during sports, a disappointment and waste of my hard-earned money. My wad of bubble wrap is much better than this. False advertising for sure.

Firstly, I'm really surprised that some reviewers worry more about their hip size than their safety; I can just imagine the conversation in ER. I have been snowboarding for over 15 years and have tried nearly all the main brand impact shorts, but none have offered as much protection as the Bohn ButtSaver. Although this particular short design does not offer 'hard shell' protection for the tailbone, it does offer nearly 3/4 inch of high density foam. The biggest problem I have found with the standard short design, is that whilst the tailbone is protected/covered in the up-right position, in the seated/impact position the shorts can ride up exposing the tailbone to injury. I speak from experience, having sustained a shattered coccyx whilst wearing a leading brand of impact short that cost nearly $100. I always where the Bohn ButtSaver when snowboarding, without doubt, it's the best product for the job, even though it might make your butt look big!

I bought these for my girlfriend to give her one less thing to complain about the day after snowboarding! I don't think it was the most romantic gift I've ever given her, but it's definitely the one she has used the most. The straps work really well - since you have so many layers on already, they hardly bother her, and the cushioning apparently doesn't get in the way of her movement when going down the slopes. I'm sure there are other uses for these things, like bike riding or something, but it's definitely helped ease the pain from a long day snowboarding.

The only thing worse than the disappointment was the waste of money. This was a joke. As others have said, it is barely thicker than a yoga mat or wet suit. I am learning to snowboard at age 35, so I do not bounce and I have aches in my back. I strapped this puppy on thinking I had the freedom to fall a little harder. I did not. I lay in the snow in agony. I took a hard fall and I may as well have been naked from the waist down. I ordered two and will return the unopened one. A fellow snowboarder recommended heavy duty hockey pants to me. I will order them when I stop icing my butt. Thanks for nothing, Butt Saver.

After much pleading, my two teenage sons finally coerced me to try snowboarding with them on a recent family trip to Vermont. I purchased the ButtSaver before hitting the slopes and have been thanking my lucky stars ever since! I love that it's virtually invisible under my ski pants and it works like a charm. Despite several "wipe outs" throughout the day, I was surprisingly pain free. My husband borrowed the ButtSaver for the remainder of our vacation and now I can't get it back! Highly recommended product!

I ordered the small Bohn Butt-SavR for my (5' 2", 112#) wife. Her waist is 30" and thigh circumference is 19". The waist on the Butt-SavR was 40" diameter at mid-point and the thigh circumference was 16" at midpoint. The waist is far too large for the stated weight range and the thigh too small for a person with even average thigh development. When contacted, Bohn said this was a the result of mistake in the production run of the small size, and could not provide a properly manufactured small. They sent an extra small size but this was both too small around the thigh and too short from top to bottom forcing the leg straps up to an uncomfortable position in the crotch. Apparently the small size is still being offered. Beware.

The product was not as expected, the velcro straps do not keep the pads tightly in place. The pads themselves were thin and did not seem to offer much proctection. The product was returned. I ordered the Hillbilly protector, it was only $10 more, but it is better built, the pads are thick and strong, it has a much better fit.

Padding is thicker and more substantial than other brands but there are gaps between the tailbone and butt pads. When I sit down my bone juts right through this gap, which would make for a bad fall. I am guessing a size down (even tho I bought the suggested size) may have a smaller gap?
