I did not purchase this through Amazon. It was on sale at the local Lowes for $24. I couldn't resist at this price. I was a bit skeptical about this spotlight being that it was only 5 watts and only one led bulb. But I assure you that it lives up to the highest of expectations. The led bulb is ultra-high output (192 lumens??) and it fully rechargeable. I purchased it because I live in the city, often hear noises or rustling in my backyard (where my bedroom is located). I was always going out to my deck to investigate the sounds, carrying my small handheld flashlights (also led, but lower output). The light was always too dim to really see what was going on. This spotlight is almost overkill. The light shines a bright spot of white light with a larger, not as bright halo around the spot. The trigger is easy to press, but the light kills as soon as the trigger is released, which is a bit odd. You can "lock" the trigger with the safety lock switch, which will keep the light on if you are hiking in the dark or whatever. But I just wish that the trigger was a click-once for "on" and click-again for off.

I bought this at Wal*Mart on sale and I wished i got two. I am not a big fan of LED's but I am now. This little light is super bright almost as bright as my Stanley 1 Million candle power light. This is probley the most prower full LED light on the market. Nothing comes close. I t produces a really nice blue/white light. The dimmer is also really handy and works great and really like this light. :)

I'm not finished testing it, but I want to advise potential buyers of a couple of drawbacks to this light...one being mentioned several times by other reviewers, and one SURPRISINGLY not yet stated by any reviewer. First (as noted by several), the fact that the brightness control has no memory is a real pain. It will maintain the brightness at which you set it ('clumsily' via the up and down buttons at the rear of the unit), but the second you let go of the trigger and the light shuts off, the 'memory' of where you 'last set' the brightness is LOST. So, 5 seconds later, when you turn on the light again, you have to go through the awkward process of adjusting the brightness control, which takens concentration...and which diverts your attention from where you are walking, etc. But as for the 2nd drawback, I'm VERY surprised that no one, as yet, has mentioned this. Despite 'splashing' the phrases: '192 lumens'!!! and "10 hours runtime" on the front of the package, these two figures don't 'equate'. At the 192 lumen level (and I have some $15 flashlights that give that same output), you only get 50 MINUTES (yes; 50 MINUTES!!) of runtime (as stated in the manual and verified by my tests.) To get the 10 hour runtime they brag about on the package, you need to turn the brightness down to a nearly unusable level (barely visible to the naked eye.) I can't imagine a more misleading representation of a spotlight's operating characteristics than what Stanley 'claims' on their literature.

A warning. The manual states "Do not overcharge: Recharge up to 2 hours maximum." A label on the torch states "Recharge after each use and every 30 days".
So, every 30 days you must plug these heap of junk in and charge for 2 hours - no more than 2 hours. You cn't leave it plugged in. Really? It is just not worth the trouble.

We bought this light to be used for emergencies. We planned to simply leave it plugged in so it was always ready to go. This light is worthless, you need to know in advance when you are going to use it, then two hours before you do, give it a top up charge to ensure it is good to go. You need to recharge it every 30 days whether you use it or not.
Every other rechargeable light we own has simple circuitry to prevent overcharging, and can be left plugged in 24/7.

A lot of high rating reviews, which surprised me given these fundamental flaws.

It is bright, but so are a lot of better torches.

I like this unit but consider it "OK" overall due to the negatives and how much it costs.

Pros:
* Bright
* Includes a dimmer control
* Small size, relatively lightweight
* Circuitry to maintain a constant light output (CLO) even as battery drains

Cons:
* NO DIMMER MEMORY - once you dim it then turn it off, it doesn't remember it the next time you turn it on
* Description says comes with a carry lanyard - mine didn't
* Not waterproof, doesn't even say water resistant
* NiMH battery not replaceable - but suppose to last the "life of the unit"

Other:
* Manual says it will last 10 hours at minimum brightness and 50 minutes at maximum brightness
* One year limited warranty
* Made in China

I have another spotlight with a halogen bulb. It is rated for more lumens and casts a broad blanket of bright light in the night. But takes a long time to recharge and has a heavy sealed lead acid battery which if abused goes bad quickly and you have to throw the whole thing away. Now compare it with the stanley 5Watt LED spotlight. This Stanley LED spotlight beams a very intense center core which is too bright for up close illumination so if you want to view something up close you don't shine the center core of the beam at the area of inspection, instead you use the outer halo and thus you can see quite easily what you want.

That center intense core of light penetrates into the distant darkness most excellently. At sixty feet the center intense core is 6 feet in diameter, not much but it is bright. A halogen spotlight casts light much bigger pattern and lights up a lot, so you would use it differently than this spotlight.

One great thing about this spotlight is that it will recharge in a maximum of 2 hours which makes it practical. I take my dogs to run in some fields at night and we're out there easily an hour and I am constantly using the light peering into the darkness and trees keeping an eye on my dogs even when they are 100 to 300 feet away. I'll take them later on in the evening for a quick last minute release around the house and the light it still charged. Just a quick recharge will ensure it ready for the next evening.
