I had this "cheap" little salad spinner for 16 years and it worked GREAT! Unfortunately, it broke last week when I was rushed before a dinner party and slammed it down. I will NOT buy another salad spinner, it worked fantastic and why spend $50 when I can get this again for under $15!

Have been looking for a salad spinner for a while but they are all quite expensive doing just one purpose. Found and purchase this here because of the inexpensive price and now it sits on my kitchen counter permanently. It is just the right size, not too big or small. I use it for my salads, herbs, and store my lemons from my garden. No more messing with towels anymore. It is easy to clean and use and double as a colander, fruit basket with a lid. The white color is fresh and clean and compliments my kitchen.

This salad performs as it should. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I thought a spinner would get greens a little drier than it does. It is however, MUCH better than drying them on towels. I like to store extras in it as well. I grow my own lettuce and really like this spinner-especially since I combined it with couple other items for free shipping!

Okay - this is not the quality salad spinner that I purchased in 1994. This one broke on the third use. The bowls are made of a much more flimsy plastic and the added friction during the spin actually broke the top. Very sad - I was so happy to have found this design again. Sunbeam made a big mistake when it changed the materials it was using for this product.

Previously I wrote:
I purchased this salad spinner in 1994 for something like $3.99. It just broke in 2007. I have had three others since then: First one with the pull string broke in a matter of months. Second had a solid bowl, with a large crank handle that kept scraping my knuckles against the the top of the spinner (that one got thrown out). Third was another solid bowl, with a push botton spin. It never got my lettuce dry enough - just not a very fast spin (that one just went to Goodwill). Finally I looked on Amazon, and there it is - the Sunbeam flow through spinner. I just put my lettuce in, place the water spiget over the hole in the top of the spinner. I run the water through and turn slowly. Then I turn off the water and spin quickly in one direction then the other. All the water drains down the sink. (I have double sinks, so if you leave your dishes in the sink, you will have to clear it out before using this spinner.) My lettuce is dry! I am happy! See you again in another 13 years. FYI - I eat salad EVERYDAY. For those of you that don't this will last you twenty years.

I read the excellent reviews of this salad spinner, but nowhere did I read that there were holes in the bottom of the outside bowl. Its primary use is for washing lettuce, but it needs to be placed in a larger bowl or in the sink for the water to drain when the salad spins dry. I will buy another salad spinner that I can use on my kitchen counter.

Returning it, cheap plastic that allowed the spinning basket to get out of shape. The top did not always mesh with the basket on closing and even when it did close properly we could not always get it to spin like it should. I should have listened to a number of the earlier reviews. Was nowhere near as good as the same old one that wore out after 15 years. I'm sure the margins were high on the old units, why did they have to go to less expensive materials? They could be selling thousands of these

There are a few things that are wrong with this salad spinner. First the lid has two pieces to it and it is annoying trying to get the lid on. Second the gears and the screen are flimsy and have trouble spinning anything more than a few leaves of lettuce. Third this spinner is big and takes up a lot of room. For the size of it you don't get a lot of lettuce dry with every spin. These issues just increase the time it should take to clean and dry lettuce.

The good thing about this spinner is that it will dry your lettuce. Once you fill the spinner about half way. Get the lid to finally attach and struggle with the crank for a few seconds. You will have dry lettuce. In the long run you will get what you want from this spinner.

I personally have had it with this spinner. I used it for a few years and I am ready for a new one. You should not buy this spinner. Look for something a little more durable than this.
