4.0 out of 5 stars Solid picture & video player, May 17, 2009
By ErrantOne (California, USA) - See all my reviews
Player is nice if you already have a freeagent go drive and want to play media from the living room. The drives works fine with any USB storage (hard drives, usb sticks, etc)

I like the slideshow transitions for photos(nice for family gatherings), and it plays back my DVD content that I've put on my drive from DVDs which I own.

Like someone already mentioned it has no HDMI, but does support component/composite so it will work with any TV. They should do HDMI on the next version, but it does not limit anything with the current product.

Single most annoying feature for video is the 'preview' that slows you down from scrolling and finding the right file. Overall, solid product and looks nice in living room. The included remote is small and so hard to operate if you have big hands, but it's usable. Don't expect to play any ripped HD movies or anything, but if you are not into that you are fine.

Been using mine for 1+months with no issues and love the look of my red freeagent go drive when it's in the unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple to use, June 20, 2009
By S. Higgins (Venice, FL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Seagate FreeAgent Theater, is very simple to use and does a really nice job. The first one I purchase was broken, it wouldn't hold the Freeagent go in place, was not able to connect, so I returned it an got a replacement right away and it works fine. Not the best quality, but for the price it does a good job. Would recommend this product

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice gadget for HDtv Enthusiast, June 10, 2009
By edk "Edk" (Phila, PA USA) - See all my reviews
Great if you have older HDTV without HDMI ports.
It has full 1080i output over built-in Component Video port.
Picture quality is outstanding.
Plays DIVIX with the quality of DVD.
It will up-convert to 1080i any
content that it plays - with excellent results (but don't expect miracles). Native HD content recorded at 1080i looks the best.
The pluggable Seagate FreeAgent GO hard disks (2.5") don't even need USB cable.
Would be 5 stars if price would be lower.

3.0 out of 5 stars Be aware there is NO HDMI
Might want to wait for the 2.0 version when they hopefully will add an HDMI output. You would think by now that this would be standard for an HD box of any kind. Read more
