Summary -- If you own a Harmony 880, you should snap this up now while it's still available. Eventually, you will need it.

A few years ago, I had to decide between replacing my very expensive A/V receiver -- which still works fine but doesn't have HDMI ports -- or finding a way to control multiple devices using a single button click using macros of some kind. It had to be friendly or the wife would kill me. The Logitech Harmony 880 fit the bill perfectly. It was not cheap at two bills, but it's simple, attractive, and very capable. Logitech even supplied codes for my now 14-year-old laserdisc player! I love the 880.

However, about 18 months later, it just stopped charging the battery, which by the way is propretary -- you won't find them at the local drug store. A new battery, which is almost 25% the cost of a new remote, did not fix the problem. Somehow, even though pampered, the remote just stops talking to the base. I don't understand it but as you can read from other reviews here, it seems to happen to a lot of people. Logitech support never got back to me about this.

Normally I refuse to support a company that sells me a product that dies and then will not talk to me, but I love this remote so much that I eventually broke down and bought another. It was obvious to me that they slightly redesigned the base, so I was hopeful that this new one would not degenerate like the first, but two years later -- same exact symptoms. I bought another $40 battery and again it didn't solve the problem. Neither did cleaning the contacts with alchohol or wrapping elastic bands around the remote and base. So at this point I'd spent $500 on these remotes.

Then I noticed this charger and the good reviews, so I took a chance.

If you are looking for a way to charge the battery in your Logitech 880 without spending a fortune, this is it. Is it as convenient or nice looking as the Logitech supplied charger/cradle? No, its not. You have to pop the battery out of the remote, stick it in this charge and find an empty wall socket with easy access. However, when the Logitech cradle goes out after 6 months and Logitech won't give you a new one, this is a good cheap way to keep using your remote.

If you own a Logitech Harmony remote it's likely that you've experienced the frustration of their poorly designed cradle charger. The remote is incredible, but I've owned 3 of them and every one of them eventually has problems with the contacts of the remote making contact with the contacts on the base to charge the unit. This charger couldn't be much more simple in it's design, but to my delight does a great job recharging the batteries. It's not as convenient as just laying the remote on the cradle as it was designed, but if you buy a spare battery also, the swap out takes seconds and it seems to be effective so far. It's not much bigger than the battery itself so it also has a small and non-cumbersome footprint.

Battery fits right on this unit, 110v terminals fold out, and plugs right in to wall sockets. It works! Tested by charging one new battery with the battery charger, and the other installed in a Harmony One remote on the remote charger. Both charged in about the same time. This is the second one I have purchased over the years, and works better than the last one.

One of the prongs (the ones that go into the electrical outlet) broke off within a few weeks of use. Having a charger that is made for these batteries is almost mandatory since the Harmony cradle seems to be so unreliable. I wish these chargers were produced with better durability.

More information that may help someone: I have a media center extender connected to my network via a HomePlug powerline adapter. It worked beautifully for a year, then suddenly there was insufficient bandwidth. After MUCH troubleshooting I finally realized that the problem began when I started recharging my remote battery in the same room with the powerline adapter. I removed the charger from the wall and like magic my network problem was solved. This charger (and I believe most any charger including cell phone chargers) apparently add noise to the power line that will make your network connection via powerline adapters virtually worthless. The solution is to make sure you charge your batteries using a plug on a different circuit. To be clear, this occurs whether or not there is a device or battery connected to the charger. The interference occurs whether or not anything is actually charging.

It does the job and fixes the problem that Logitech should have taken ownership of. Because it's all one piece it takes up quite a bit of real estate on your power strip. You'll probably have to juggle things around to get this in an outside position.

Back in 2007 I had purchased the Harmony 880 remote, when we bought a new house and moved five years ago the remote was nowhere to be found - that is until last week.

While opening a draw to an old dresser in storage there is was, intact well almost, except for the charger Base. I placed this order fairly quickly and it arrived in record time. The charger works beautifully. In fact, I think it's a better design than using the cradle.

A great solution if you own a Harmony 880 or the 720, 890 or 1000 series.

Shipped the day it was ordered by First Class Mail it arrived in two days - well packaged, brand new, wrapped in plastic and well insulated. A great option over investing in a new remote - in fact I was surprised to see the 880 is still sold after all these years but that's Logitech for you as I find their products most always to be of great quality and built to last.

Although I have to admit I do have my eye on the newer Harmony Touch, but for now the 880 will serve us just fine.
