Branko Paradis (Yugoslavian/American, 1942).
Branko Paradis is an American, self-taught, naïve-folk painter who was born in Croatia. He was part of the second generation of "Yugoslav Primitives" before he came to New York in 1970. In 1971, he was invited by Otto Kallir, "discoverer" of Grandma Moses, to have his first solo exhibition at Galerie St. Etienne. In 1977, he had his second solo show at Hammer Galleries on West 57th Street.
Paradis is inspired by memories of villages and the lives of peasants. Also, in his own unique way, he shares with us his love of African animals; and offers other visionary impressions as well. For more than 35 years, Branko Paradis has given us his art that is filled with beauty, honesty and innocence, which is so often missed in modern life
