MR355R Features

35 Mile Range
The MR355R, under ideal conditions, gives you a range of up to 35 miles. Conditions vary with geography and other variables.

22 Channels With 8 Repeater Channels
Starting with the same 22 channels as the MR350, the MR355R adds 8 built-in repeater channels, which can work with a local repeater station to carry your signal further. Take advantage of this value-added feature by switching to GMRS channels 15R-22R, but don't forget you'll need a GMRS license and an accessible repeater station to take advantage.

Emergency Alert Button
When the alert button is activated, the radio transmits an alert siren followed by transmission of spoken or incidental sounds. This allows you to send the signal to other radios and warn of impending danger.

Keypad Lock
Lock your keypad to avoid accidentally changing your radio settings.

Channel Scan
Use scan to search the 22 channels for transmissions from unknown parties, to find someone in your group who has accidentally changed channels, or to quickly find unused channels for your own use.

Includes drop-in dual charger for easy charging.

Brilliant LCD with battery indicator, channel, and other info.

Oversized buttons are easy to use, even with gloves on.

Charging Options
You can charge the MR355R using the Motorola standard charging port (with the included charging adapter), the Drop-in cradle charger (also included), or purchase a mini-USB cable for use with the Mini-USB charging port, especially useful when traveling.

121 Privacy Codes
Interference Eliminator Codes help minimize interference by blocking transmissions from unknown sources. The MR355R features 121 codes for superior interference protection.

Ten Call Tones (Five Standard, Five Animal Sounds)
The MR355R can transmit different call tones to other radios in your group so you can alert them that you want to talk. You can also add stealth and fun to your outdoor adventure by masking your radio's normal ring tone under the guise of a quacking duck, a cackling goose, a gobbling turkey, a bugling elk or a howling coyote. You will find this a helpful way to blend into the untamed habitat of the wild.

Hands-Free Communication
Use the iVOX feature to transmit hands-free without the need for any headset accessories. Once iVOX is turned on, the radio detects your voice and transmits when you speak into the internal microphone.

QT (Quiet Talk) Noise Filtering
The QT noise-filtering feature helps to ensure uninterrupted communication with other Motorola radios, filtering out unwanted transmissions from other radios. This is useful in places where there is heavy radio traffic, such as amusement parks or ski resorts.

Talk Confirmation (Roger Beep) Alert
You can set your radio to transmit a unique tone when you finish transmitting. It is like saying "Roger" or "Over" to let others know you are finished talking.

Weather Receiver
Tune in to broadcasts by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio and Environment Canada Weatheradio. Both NOAA and Environment Canada have transmitters located throughout the United States and Canada, respectively. These transmitters broadcast watches, forecasts, and other information 24 hours a day.

Weather Alerts
A special alarm tone sounds an alert and turns on the weather receiver to give you immediate weather and emergency information.

Flashlight
Handy built-in LED flashlight comes in handy in the dark or during power outages.

Push-to-Talk (PTT) Power Boost
When activated, this feature helps extend the transmission range by increasing the transmitter power output while helping to save battery life when no power boost is necessary.

Extra Large Buttons
Skiers and winter sports adventurists will appreciate the new design that features extra large buttons making it easier than ever to operate with gloves.

VibraCall
For quiet adventures or when ringing is intrusive, the VibraCall feature can be enabled to silently alert users to incoming transmissions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motorola MR355R Two-Way Radio FRS/GMRS, September 20, 2009

This is truly a great device. It has vibration feature, allowing you to keep it silent when needed. The ring tones are also not too bad, it got a few phone like ones. But the animal ring tones may only useful if you are in hunting.

How far it can reach? They said, 35 miles from one end to another end of two-visible high places could be possible. That claim could be true but I couldn't have chance to test that. Practically, suitable for hunting, camping, hiking etc. Never get lost or separated from your team. Also, while I was driving a car and my partner in her office, i could establish a communication within a distance of up to 2.5 km in an unleveled surrounding environment that has lots of trees, buildings.

The charging cradle is US based and I need to use a plug converter for that. However, the cradle I have is faulty and never been used. Too costly also for the seller to fix this because I am living in Australia. I don't really bother about it since I can use mini USB cable, charging at plug, computer or 12V car cigarette fuse.

Another interesting point is that, you can use new 3-AA rechargeable batteries if the existing packaged one is faulty. If turn on 24/7, it can last for two weeks or more without a need to recharge. I turned on the device for a few minutes a day and that really conserved the power. It is hard to know exactly how many months (one or two) before I need to recharge the batteries again. When the battery power finished, I just need to recharge e.g. via 12V car fuse for several minutes before I could send a signal.

Design is excellent. Has an LED as a torchlight in emergency situation. A bit bigger than latest mobile phone, but very light. I wish to have something like this but a smaller one which comes with AAA batteries. This is a two way radio pair. If Motorola could put together FM radio, MP3 player, camera and simcard slot, it could be one of a gadget that everyone on-the-go must have and that shouldn't be called radio anymore!

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, November 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought these to replace an older model that supposedly only had a 12 mile range. These don't send or receive as well as the old ones. They also eat batteries a lot faster. Guess I should have stuck with the old ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Than Adequate, November 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I researched these radios on multiple sites and was surprised by the wide range of opinions. The biggest criticism seemed to be lack of range. The other hunters on the deer lease used various Motorola radios with satisfactory results and for ease of communicating with them I decided to purchase them through Amazon. We hunt in central Texas on an approximately 5000 acre ranch, with mixed terrain (woods, fields, flat and hills). These radios seemed to be more than adequate when communicating with the other hunters. The rechargeable batteries seemed to provide more than enough stand-by time and the ability to supplement them with standard batteries is a plus. The only reason that I didn't give them five stars is the short period of use. While I may find other issues over time and with more severe service, these radios had good range in the field.
