Hailing from the shores of Lake Erie near Cleveland, Eric Carmen and his pop sensibility has been part of our culture for well over three decades now, beginning with the hit single 'Go All The Way' in 1972. Recorded by the Carmen-fronted Raspberries in 1972 and from their debut album, 'Go All The Way' began a string of hits for the Raspberries that included 'I Wanna Be With You', 'Let s Pretend' and 'Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)'. After The Raspberries ship sank in 1975, Eric set sail on his own as a solo artist. Success came immediately, as his first two solo singles were smash hits ('All By Myself' and 'Never Gonna Fall In Love Again'). Subsequent releases didn t fare as well, and by the end of the seventies, Eric was ready for a break. This 1980 release is Carmen s last blast of pop magic before he settled into a four-year sabbatical from the music industry. 'Tonight You re Mine' has a first rate cast of supporting musicians, including Davey Johnstone (Elton John, Rod Stewart), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Cactus), Kenny Passarelli (Hall & Oates, Joe Walsh) and DavidWoodford (Bonnie Raitt, Aerosmith). The release of this pop gem is American Beat Records way of saying thanks to Eric for all the many sweet sounds he has produced over the years, and we hope there are many more to come!

As an ardent fan of Eric Carmen's solo work, as well as his work with The Raspberries I find this CD to be very enjoyable with a few lyrical surprises when you consider the year it was released. The title track is very well written, composed and performed and should have charted higher than it did. If you think Eric Carmen and think ballads, you should give a listen to "Foolin' Myself". The passion and conviction with which it is sung, tugs at one's heartstrings and can make one teary-eyed!

Though this was released in 1980, the melodies, lyrics and vocal presentation stand the test of time!
