Product Description

Product Description

Life starts after five o'clock. Not coincidentally, that's also when the Palm Centro smartphone comes alive. Not only does the Palm Centro handle all your favorite voice functions, but it also offers text, IM, e-mail, and web access--all in a body that's a lot smaller than you'd think. Add a 1.3-megapixel camera, 64 MB of internal memory, Bluetooth connectivity for headsets, MicroSD expansion, and a full QWERTY keyboard and you have a terrific smartphone for all your messaging and personal needs. You'll be able to get to where you're going fast with support for TeleNav GPS Navigator software (which requires an optional Bluetooth GPS receiver). And this quad-band GSM version of the Centro for AT&T also features walkie talkie-style Push to Talk (PTT) communication in addition to voice dialing and speakerphone capabilities. The integrated Palm OS 5.4.9 operating system also plays nicely with Windows XP and Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.2 and higher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best smartphone ever, June 23, 2009
I have been palm user for 10+ years, and tried many many smartphones before the Centro, included Motorola, Sony-Ericson, Nokia, and a HTC TyTN II.

I think almost all smartphones I had before the Centro, are far most "shiny and fancy" (far more expensive too), but none of them are even close of the Centro once you add 3rd party software, and customize the phone to adapt it to your own needs.

More than a smartphone, the Centro is PDA with phone and Internet.

The Centro, as it comes out of the box, is a very poor smartphone, but once you add the software you need, I have not found any better.

I have had my Centro for near 2 years and have never had any problems with the hardware. Last night, by accident I dropped half a beer over my Centro, and after a night in front of the heater, this morning the phone was like new.

My advice: This is an excellent smartphone which you can add almost anything you wish, but don't buy it if you don't think to add 3rd party software, because its native interface and included software is very poor.

My software recomendations:

Agendus, Nuvii Remote, Kinoma Player, Callrec, Astraware Games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good smart phone., May 13, 2009
I have been Palm user since 2005, and I have had 3 models: Treo 650 (3 1/2 years), Treo Pro (2 days), and now Palm Centro (one week). The Centro is smaller and lighter, the voice of the person who is calling is most clear and louder than the 650, it does not have antenna, and the camera has best resolution; but, on the other hand, the disadvantages are: the battery works 2 days against 5 of the 650, and the access to the memory card and the SIM is difficult, when in the 650 is very easy.
I do not recommend the Palm Treo Pro, because uses the Windows Mobile OS, that is difficult to use; open the Office documents slowly, the battery drains rapidly, less than one day, and the cover of the battery is very hard to remove it.

1.0 out of 5 stars buy it if you like sending stuff in for repair often, June 20, 2009
By Robin M "robin_M" (CA, United States) - See all my reviews
Basically these GSM unlocked phones seem plagued with a freezing issue on certain GSM networks, in the US Tmobile seems a problem carrier. Before you consider buying this item google search "Centro unlocked freezing", there are many forums with this problem discribed. Palm denies this issue exists - I had to send mine in numerous times, never fixed. Cost me time and money (for shipping to them). Very frustating. If it would work as discribed I would have liked it.
