My wife needed a new computer but also need to connect an old travel agency ticket printer to the computer. Unfortunately new computers no longer have a serial port so we thought we were out of luck. We discovered that we could get a card to add this function so we ordered one from Amazon. Unfortunately the first StarTech would not show on her new computer. I thought it was a bad card, so back it went to Amazon. I ordered a new one and the same issue. I finally got a nice tech support guy on the phone at StarTech, yes they are here in the United States and you really get to speak to a live person.

He told me that some of the new computers have issues with the cards and I needed the one with the Oxford chipset in it. They look identical, so unless you get the proper product number from StarTech you may have a problem. We finally got the correct one with the Oxford chipset, installed it, it now showed up on my wife's computer and we were good to go. The printer works fine and all is well in the world.

I would suggest that if you order this one since this is the chipset that seems to work with most new computers.

Absolutely flawless! This is the third USB to RS232 Converter I've purchased and this one actually works! Unlike the others. I had to buy this to use with a stepper motor controller and none of the others, which were Prolific PL2303 chipsets, worked. This one is fully customizable and works perfectly with my controller. Not to mention it seems that the PL2303 are not compatible with either win7 or 64-bit systems, not sure which but grab yourself the FTDI chipset and it'll work just fine. Great product, I highly recommend if you need it. Comes with all software and easy installation.

I purchased this for use in a Windows 7 Host with VMWare running Windows XP for some old dos applications. The com ports were setup to pass through from the host to the virtual machine. It works perfectly. This is a solid product.

I use it to connect a go-to telescope mount to a laptop. This allows me to use a planetarium program to select tagets and point the scope and to use a software version of the scope's hand controller. These adaptors can be problematical. Those by Prolific have been copied and cheapened for example.

This adapter, with a good FTDi chipset works reliably for hours. I recommend this or the Keyspan adapter.

Awesome product. I specifically bought this because of some of the extra features this has over others, like remembering COM ports. I installed this onto multiple laptops, configured them all for the same COM ports, and it always picks right back up where it left off on any of them. It's immediately recognized every time. Works great on ASA/Catalyst, Powerconnect, Procurve, and other firewalls/routers/switches. Also had no issues with Windows 7, 8.1, 10, Server 2012 R2, etc. Well worth the money.

I can't get it to work with windows 8.1 or 10. No real help online. Lots of drivers for win 7, XP even 2000. Nothing for new systems. Frustrated. I get this in device manager.
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

The SuperSpeed link to the USB device keeps going to an error state Compliance. If the device is removable, remove the device and then disable/enable from device manager to recover.

I never could get my computer to recognize the card and admit I am not a tech person. I gave up and used the Tera Grand - Premium High Speed USB 2.0 to Serial RS-232 DB-9 Converter - Supports Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, 98, Linux and Mac - with FTDI Chipset. It worked without any issues.

I use serial ports to control several ham radios. I switched computers from an ancient (OK, 2002) XP desktop that had a 4-port serial card to a new system running Windows 7. I was concerned about switching the OS and computer at the same time - I hoped everything would work. It did! The installation was problem-free and the serial card works great with both radios along with the software I use (which also upleveled). I was able to use the dual connector configuration, but it's nice that StarTech includes the lower profile brackets too.

No complaints, it works very well and I plan on picking up a 2nd card to add in some more radios.
