    I saw the advertising for Red Wing boots. Then I read the reviews at Amazon. I needed good boots for work since my feet are more and more a cause for concern as I age. Noting that Red Wings are made in China, and that is not always a good thing, I took a look at the reviews for these Thorogoods. I wanted a boot with high quality leather, and these do not disappoint. I had trouble with the stitching coming loose on Wolverines, so I had a close look at the handiwork on these Thorogoods....hmmm...excellent. My Caterpillars are stiff and uncomfortable, so how about comfort and break-in time? No break in time at all---and comfortable the first time I put them on....made in USA tag prominently placed. Looks like this time I got it right. These boots are built for comfort.

    These boots are pretty amazing, I've owned a pair
    for a few years and I wear them year round.
    When you polish them, the deep shine gives them
    a fancy shoes look. I even wear them to go to church.
    They are light and very confortable.
    Of course I REALLY appreciate the fact that they are
    made in the USA!

    I have only worn these boots 3 or 4 times but they are so comfortable right out of the box! They fit true to size and did I mention comfortable. They were not advertised as waterproof but I bet they are. I would recommend these boots to anyone.

    Overall good...but...they are a little narrow around the ball of the foot and in the toe box, compared to some other boots I've owned (Keen Portland). I was able to get used to it and overall they are comfortable. I like the leather in the lower part of the tounge for a better look. The leather used for this boot is soft and light, which helps for comfort, but makes it a little lighter duty. You will need shoe polish to keep them looking good, and to keep the exposed overlaping leather edges (there are many) in this design from turning light colored and looking bad. I've had no quality issues with these. I didn't like the stiff round laces that came with them, so I switched them out with a nice flatter style that works and looks better. I feel good that I bought American, but I will probably continue my search for the perfect work boots with my next purchase.

    Thorogood products are the best. I wear them daily and the last pair lasted 3+ years. Got this new pair because the others just looked worn.
    Best part is that they are American Made. That is hard to find. You get what you pay for.

    Boots fit exact to size, no break in period. Had these for about a month working in a heavy equipment factory moving non-stop on super harden concrete all day and climbing up into large equipment putting pressure and stress on the boots to support myself at awkward positions. Worked in Converse before however, unfortunately Reebok has screwed up the original design after taking over Converse work boots. These boots are superior to other brands I have worked in, Reebok, Converse, Timberland, the American made quality shows in looks and wear. Only personal con is I wish they had added an outside cover for the toe as anyone who really uses safety boots sees the abuse the toe area endures.

    Comfort: Extremely comfortable for a work boot, both when sitting and walking.
    Breathable: Very happy, my feet get kind of hot in my walking shoes, but with these boots I don't at all feel like I must take them off. Somehow they breathe well.
    Laces: Nice and thick, seem pretty durable
    Skin: Only one color was available (root beer).
    Finish: Got scuffed up pretty easily and won't go away. The leather just peeled away by rubbing my boot gently on an unfinished concrete surface. I'd rate it lower, but it's a work boot after all.
    Fit: I ordered through these boots through the internet. I'm a wide, and found a site how to determine whether if I'm wide or double wide. I ordered the wide and fit just snug, not too tight and not too loose, even with tube socks on.
    Lacing Up: I enjoy the 3 lace-up hooks, and primarily choose to use the first set of hooks for that walking shoe feel. However, I find that while sitting the top hook can catch onto my pants' cuff stitching, pulling the hem and getting my foot stuck.
    Use the "Ian" knot (google it) – it can never open by itself, yet it's easy to knot and unknot it.
    Weight: Pretty light, especially for a work boot.
    Break-in Time: Very short.
    Fashionable: Decent for a working boot, but could have looked a little bit more in-style.
    Workmanship: The uppers are joined together by different sections. The sections are overlapped and sewed. When you look down you see all of the edges of the sections, and is a great place for dust and dirt to collect. It would have looked better if they made all of the overlaps facing down instead of facing up.
    Price: In my search for a really good boot, I almost settled on Timberland, but then saw Redwings were more superior. But after reading reviews about those, I noticed many people were praising Thorogoods over them, and I'm proud to join those ranks as well.

    I searched long and hard for some American made footwear and I am happy with my result. The boot fits a tiny bit large which is perfect for heavy hiking socks and winter wear. I get much better traction in wet conditions than I did with Timberland boots which are downright dangerous in damp conditions. The Thorogood boots did requrie some minimal break in but not a great deal before becoming quite comfortable. I wish the tongue were a bit longer as they tie right at the top of the tongue. If I ever wear them out I will most likely buy another pair. Water proof them as soon as you confirm they fit.
