4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great but 1 problem., June 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just received my Nexto Extreme 2700 500gb device today, and have put it through the paces. It works great on my SDHC Cards. I took over a hundred pictures and it was extremely quick in downloading them. I am using a 16gb Transcend Class 6 card. The download time was something like 20 seconds. Next I hooked it up to my Sony Handycam camera and it downloaded the movie files very quickly. No problems there. It recognized the drive after I had everything turned on and dowloaded it with no problems. I hooked the Nexto to my computer through my USB connection and it downloaded all to my computer quickly and without a hitch. The only problem I had with the device is this: I took over 100 pictures and downloaded the card to the Nexto. Then I took an additional 20 pictures. I was under the impression the Nexto would recognize the new pictures and would just download them, but it didn't. It downloaded 120 pictures instead of just the 20. I tried it several times and the results were always the same. It downloaded the whole file and not just the new pictures. Not a really big deal, but I read that this was a feature the Nexto had and unfortunately was unable to make the Nexto perform that way. I looked through all the literature that came with the Nexto and nowhere do they mention that feature. All in all I am very happy with the Nexto. The speed is really fast. I just wish it would recognize my previous downloads and upload only the new pictures. Addition --- I printed out the manual [...] and figured out what I was doing wrong. Now once a card has been read, when more pictures are taken and the card is inserted again, the Nexto gives the choice of copying new files or copying the whole card. I now give this product 5 STARS!!!! It is a great product in every way.
Update 8/9/09 I used the Nexto while I was in Vietnam for just about a month. I took 4259 pictures and 495 videos and all of it was stored on the Nexto. It downloads so quick it is amazing. I also have a Wolverine 7000 160gb, and it is so slow it was unreal. Both worked good but the Nexto just screamed and the Wolverine was dead slow. I backed up video from my Sony Handycam, pictures from my Canon SD500 camera (SD), my Nikon D90 (SDHC), and my Kodak video mini camera. I couldn't be happier with the Nexto. It was well worth the price. Rolla

5.0 out of 5 stars Great so far, October 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was really hoping to avoid having to take a laptop on an upcoming trip to Russia but knew that I might not have enough CF cards to cover all that I wanted to shoot. Additionally, I am fairly fanatical about backing up my photos on a trip. I looked around and it seemed from reviews on Amazon and other sites that storage devices like the Nexto had finally come of age. The earlier back up devices in this category were of low quality and plagued with bugs. I have tested this unit with some cards that I had recently shot. It worked perfectly. The Nexto copy the pictures flawless from the CF to the HD very quickly. The user interface is perfectly simple and intuitive. The disk mounted on my Mac like any other portable HD. Plug and play. The USB hook up was fast and easy. I imported the shots into Lightroom without a hitch. This unit is lightweight, easy to use, and seems to be of decent build quality. I want to put it through further tests but so far it is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic solution for backups on the go!, July 12, 2009
I used this on a recent trip to California where I ended up backing up around 140 GB worth of pictures (5DII monster files!) over a two week period. I also had a Wolverine FlashPac as additional backup, and the contrasts in speed could not have been starker. While the Wolverine took over half an hour for about 6 GB of data, the NEXTO copied it over in around 5 mins! I had to copy the data out to my laptop to verify as I thought something had gone wrong with the copy. I highly recommend this device!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, except not 500GB, only 466GB
This on the go drive seems to do everything it says it does and speedily. However, I feel it is deceptive to claim it is "500 GB" when it is 500 billion bytes and really 466 GB... Read more
