This product is straight forward easy to install as advertised. My roof rails are foolishly body colored rather than something more wear forgiving. The soft rubber mounts allow for tight installation and full removal with no marks left or paint abrasion.
The weight gives you confidence that it'll take the load. This sucker is solid.
If I had one gripe it would be that the gear for tightening/loosening requires too many turns.
If I needed a second set, I would not hesitate to buy another set.

I bought this roof rack to go on our 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan, primarily to hold a cargo box on the roof to alleviate crowding inside the van on our summer road trips. In general, it's solid and I don't worry about any of the mechanical parts failing while I'm driving 75 MPH down the interstate.

Strengths:

I like the square shape of the rails. When I bought these, I was comparing them with the equivalent product from Yakima, and I do prefer the square rails to the round ones. Sure, the materials each is made with will have an impact, but I feel like the square would take more abuse before failing than the round would.

From a mechanical perspective, the design of the feet is good. Using rubber straps to go around the vehicle's roof rails is a clever solution to fitting may different types and shapes of rails. The curved base of the feet looks like it would fit just about any shape of rail as well, without undue pressure on any one point.

The way the rails slide freely within the feet is very nice. It makes it easy to put the rack on vehicles of different widths. When the rubber straps securing the feet to the roof rails are tightened down, the bars are also secured in place, meaning that no side-to-side motion will be possible while driving down the road (as long as the straps are tightened). This is essential.

Others have criticized the gearing inside the feet (for tightening the straps) as requiring too many turns to tighten. I disagree with the criticism, and appreciate the higher gear ratio. This allows the straps to be made much tighter without the risk of them "backing out" on their own with the jostling and vibration of the highway.

The hex key being a part of the locking handle is very nice.

I got this for my 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander. It installed in less than 10 minutes. Very secure on vehicle. I was pulling with all my strength, the vehicle was rocking back and forth, and these bars did not move at all. Great product, includes locks for all 4 feet.

Thule products are of very good quality and this is no exception. It works as advertised. The only slight issue I had is that the straps that wrap around the existing rack are seemingly not long enough to wrap around thicker roof rack bars (like my Pathfinder). I was able to get it to work however by sliding the cross bar out of the attaching feet, extending the straps as far as they would possibly go, installing the feet and then sliding the cross bar back through. Also, without any roof carrier attached, the bars do cause some wind noise at higher speeds.

Ok, so I bought these bars Back in February 2008 and have had them mounted on my SUV every day since then and today it is August 2012. I figure after 4 years the honeymoon is over and I can give you an honest opinon. In short, I think my car will collapse into a pile of rust before this rack fails. I have tied everything to these bars! Bikes, kayaks, cargo bins, plywood, drywall, acrylic sheets, steel pipes, ladders, matteresses, a 12ft sail boat, surfboards, seriously, youname it, it's probably been up there. I have ignored my vehicle's reccomended roof weight limits and all common sense with loading and come through ok.

These bars are mostly indestructable. The only issues I've ever had was I've lost a few of the end caps, due to knocking them loose and having them fall off which was my own fault. Also, the rubber that encloses the steel clamping belts that hold these to your roof bars has started to rot away. But given that I expose them to harsh Southern California sun, Salt water, and endless abuse, I can't really fault the rubber.

If you can get past the purchase price, I really don't think you can get a better set of roof bars. I love mine and when I get a new car, they are coming with me!

I bought this roof rack for my 2015 Jeep Renegade. It was easy to install, the pictures exampled a clear story. Plus it looked pretty good sitting atop my new white machine. What I did not like was the howling and whistling that emanated from the handsome contraption when it was minus a load. But after reading several reviews here, and completing a problem-solving search on the internet, I followed the advice of one smart fellow who suggested wrapping a rope or bungie cord around the length of the front rail and somehow mathematically altering the wind embrace causing the thing to scream bloody murder. It worked. Like a charm. And at first I had to get used to and accept that I now had a shiny blue bungie wrapped about my unit on a brand new car. But quickly I forgot to notice, and occasionally I still feel a bit of gratitude for no longer hearing that incessantly loud high-pitched noise. And so like a kid, I not only have that blue bungie on my roof rack, I fashioned the same cord weaved throughout the ribs of the rear rack of my Townie bicycle.
