I looked at some of the other reviews and have come to realize that this candy is not enjoyable for everyone. If you're trying it for the first time, it might be a very different experience for you, but I grew up on this stuff and I love it! There were other reviews that complained about the "graininess" of the texture (that it wasn't creamy like some other brands). The problem with the more creamy brands is that they are usually not pure maple - they are combined with other substances to give them the smoother texture (such as pure cane sugar). While I can also appreciate a smoother texture, the other mixed ingredient brands don't compare to the pure maple flavor you get from this brand. To those of you who hate the taste of this product, it doesn't mean other people won't enjoy it. Don't give it one star because of your personal palate preferences - that's not the fault of this product.

I am extremely disappointed in this item. It arrived all melted, in pieces, or smashed together. Also, the candy that is recognizable does not look very appetizing. Although the candy I can salvage might taste okay, the appearance is off-putting, to put it mildly.

If you are reading this review, I assume that you already know what maple sugar candy is and like it. Maple sugar candy is a personal favorite, but I know plenty who hate it. I was very pleased with the quality of this candy. It was slightly soft and moist, not dry and crumbly as sometimes happens. Maple sugar candy is always expensive, but this was priced about as reasonably as you will find. I definitely recommend this candy to those who already know they like maple. For the rest, try a smaller package first.

This will be a combined review comparing two brands of maple candy I purchased on Amazon. I first bought the Butternut Mountain Farm Pure Maple Sugar Candy, 9-Ounce Box - this one. It was one of the lowest price ones I could find, so I figured I'd try it first. The centers were a bit grainy - not creamy as I'd prefer. I would not recommend this product.

Next I bought Mansfield Maple- 1 LB (16oz) Pure Vermont Maple Sugar Candy (48 Candies) [cannot add product link for some reason.] Now this stuff was wonderful! The outsides were solid and the centers were creamy despite the packaging. The company bills them as "Crystal Coated with Pure Maple to "lock in" the freshness... Made Fresh to Order." That may be why they are perfect. I will keep buying this brand!

EDIT: since writing this, I found out that maple sugar candy is NOT supposed to be stored in sealed plastic bags or containers.

Caveat Emptor: This company does not seal the boxes in any way. The flaps are not taped, so air can get to the candies and harden them.

I have loved maple sugar candy for many years. I've tried dozens of different brands and this was the first that was hard as a rock. There is no expiration date on the box, but it seemed as though the candy was quite old due to the improper packaging. Even the middle of the largest leaf wasn't soft the way maple sugar candy should be.

A really fresh piece should have a slightly crunchy/sugary exterior and be smooth and almost buttery inside. This was definitely not.

Wow this was a disappointment. Maple sugar candy has been my favorite since childhood. But, this...blech! It's poorly packaged so the candies were piled up and the box was open. The candy was dried out and tasted kind'a metallic. It seemed as though it had been in the box for so long it took absorbed some of the metal in the tray, and then dried out.

I highly do NOT recommend this product. Unless of course you want to throw your money away.

The box of candy arrived all mixed up , all candy shifted around, on top of one another, broken small pieces. Box dented, so "DISAPPOINED" as this was to be a Christmas gift. Really! Someone need to do a better job of packing candy for shipment.
