Ordered three cool pads to try out. I love the aluminum design. I think with the macbooks this would be a great secondary feature. Only three stars because there is nothing to keep the laptop secure and sliding around. The other reason is that the fan underneath does not have any sort of shield or enclosure. If you rest this on your lap, pillow, or blanket, it will interfere with the fan blades. A few tweaks to the design and this would be a great device. Cooler Master NotePal ErgoStand Lite - Height Adjustable Laptop Cooling Stand with Adjustable Fan was the winner of the three.

The label on the bottom clearly says 12 volts and the fan inside is labeled 12 volts but the external power connector is for 5 volts only and it is not labeled. 12 volts there will burn up the pc card. If the fan is run at its rated 12 volts it runs much faster but the cheap plastic case amplifies the fan vibration, producing extreme noise. When the fan is powered from your laptop USB port it runs so slowly that it is of little use. There are many laptop coolers on Amazon that cost less do a better job of cooling your computer. Do not buy this over priced product.

Delivered on March 19; on April 26 while sitting on my lap balanced and centered, with an 11 1/2 inch HP Mini 311 atop, the fan started clattering and a 2 inch length of one of the fan fins (paddles, whatever) was spit out onto the floor. I am apparently eight days out of luck for returns, but Amazon has been very customer friendly so far, so I'll update after I've checked with them. Obviously the fan's design is is off if something like this happens so quickly.

I had a Zalman NC-1000 for many years, which I found a very good product except for a few things: lacking fan output and relatively high noise for its paltry output. This cooler is MUCH better than the Zalman. There is a lot of airflow and it is SO quiet. I like the slick design, and it is very stable. Highly recommended.

Although the description says that this cooler can support up to 15 inch wide notebook, it's too small for mine lenovo y500 notebook. And the fan is smaller than my imagination. However I love the appearance.
