A bit of info about myself before my review, I've had aquariums since 1998 and so I know how to start/maintain one. I've had salt, fresh and brackish.

Anyway, I started a new fresh water aquarium about two weeks ago, so I decided to give this product a try, having tried Seachem's Stability in the past, which by the way, does not work any miracles either. So after 3 days, I tested the water's parameters to see if this product truly does what it says it does, but, as I had suspected, it didn't work. Amonia was just under 0.25ppm, Nitrite and Nitrate was also present and pH was at 7.4. I know the pH is not even mentioned on the product's label, but I decided to mention it anyway. A good buffer like Seachem works to bring the pH to a neutral 7.0, but don't use any during the cycle, because the pH will be different during it and it should go back to normal on its own. The only time you should use products like Seachem pH is during water changes or for spikes.

I recommend you use this product, BUT let the cycle work itself out naturally as well. Don't expect this product to "accelerate" the biological cycle, because in reality, it doesn't. I don't plan to put any starter fish in there either, it's just cruel. The fish have a terrible time trying to barely breathe.

What I recomend however, is to get yourself some bio rings, if you have a canister filter like the Rena, place some bio rings in there, apply this product to the water for at least 5 days in a row, then add a pinch of food flakes in the water, for inert material, then wait for the cycle. Do water test daily and keep a log of their results. In about 3 to 4.

I love this product for keeping my aquarium in good working order. I use a little every week and find that I have to do fewer water changes, hardly ever loose fish, and the aquarium is always good and clear. I have been using this product for quite a few years now and have tried other brands and feel they don't work as well. I like this stuff so much, I'm happy to see I can buy it at Amazon in this big container. It saves me money and I don't always have to be ordering it or searching in stores for it.

A bottle of this came with my tank. I had been trying to cycle my tank for 7 weeks using various methods (at first with just water changes and Prime, then with seeded media, then with Seachem Stability). Cycling was very slowly progressing with only trace amounts (less than 5 ppm) of nitrates. Then I decided to try adding Nutrafin Cycle-- I already had it on hand, so I figured why not. Used the directions for a new tank. The day after the first dose, my nitrates jumped to greater than 5ppm for the first time ever! Also, my water became crystal clear overnight. Even my friends casually noticed how clear the water looked. It has now been a week since I first added Cycle, and the tank has 0 NH3, 0 NO2, and greater than 5 NO3. I am quite impressed. I don't know yet if the cycle will hold for the long term-- but I am cautiously optimistic.

Good bargain for price. I'm maintaining a university aquarium lab with ~600 gallons worth of functioning tanks and need to constantly condition our awful tap water in order to keep up with water changes on these tanks. This size is perfect for our needs.

I got a better deal for the larger size of Cycle from Amazon. It is a great product. I use it in different aquariums and lobster tanks that I maintain around town.

We've been using Nutrafin Cycle in our 80-gallon fish tank since we started keeping fish. It was recommended by a friend, and we now swear by it!

For the longest time I couldn't get my levels right. These paired with Fluval bio filters saved my butt and my fishes gills. Good luck!

The smaller bottles are expensive. Just pour some of this into a smaller container so you don't
accidentally spill this everywhere.
