Do not assume that most expensive shoulder rests are the best ones. I tried Bon Musica $40 and Kun Voce $70 and none of them was even remotely as pleasurable to play violin with as with this reviewing Kun brand. Different people have unlikely shoulder with a different proportion to its neck. Some humans have long necks, another almost perpendicular shoulders, still others have gently rolling down with significant trapezoid muscle shoulders. So, my advice is this: go to violin shop and try all of their shoulder rests find one you like and if they expensive get one here on Amazon.

I bought one of these for $44 at a music store. Kun has great quality, and the shoulder rest is perfect. It makes it SO easy to hold the violin between your shoulder and chin, and fits so well that you can totally remove you hand and hold the violin like that! Awesome!

I've used this item for 5 years. Here are my observations:
Pros or things I liked:
1. made out of materials that cause minimal damage to one's instrument
2. adjustable hight
3. legs fold up
4. easy to attach and detach
5. Durable
6. Some Parts can be replaced and/or upgraded
7. Fairly inexpensive.

cons/ wht's missing, needs improvement or adaptation:
1. Larger adjustmentability for height. If you are tall or have length from collar bone to chin, this item doesn't measure all the way up. You will need to compensate for this shortcoming unless you enjoy neck and back pain while you spend any substantial amount of time playing.
2. Despite the 'fold-up' feature, you will still be hard pressed to fit this item in the storage spaces in your standard instrument case. This is a minor irritation when attending classes, practices, and performances as you have yet another extra thing to carry and potentially forget. Like the rosin, rag, and tuner, it would be nice to contain all extras inside one's case.

First off, I am not sure why the previous reviewers are saying that this slips off. Mine stays put! I have to wonder if they're putting it on wrong or maybe they have a smaller size violin and don't know it? It goes on easily, is adjustable (you screw the sides in and out), and it collapses so it fits into the storage pocket of my rectangular (oblong) violin case. I've been using this Kun shoulder rest for 5 months and have had no problems. I think it is very comfortable too. I teach about 16 violin classes per week at an elementary school and I can let go and even walk around with the violin on my neck (I know it sounds crazy but it works) and it stays put. You see, teaching classes of up to 38 kids to play violin has a few hectic moments.

When I started playing viola (I play a 14 1/2"), I tried out at least two dozen different shoulder rests. This one fit the curve of my chest comfortably, and enabled me to hold the viola without any stress on my neck (my chiropractor can't even believe I play!). Because there's no stress on my neck or shoulder, I can play for hours without strain and just the slightest pressure holds it in place. I don't even have a callus on my neck, thanks to this and a proper chin rest. The material is non-slip so the viola stays in place even on a really slick fabric (listen up, you men with satin lapels on your dinner jackets). All in all, if it is comfortable for you, it's an outstanding, long-wearing, reasonably priced product that's well-made. A real winner!

Its cool, quick to fold up, and very comfortable. Its almost impossible to scratch the fiddle with it.

Kun is a big name in violin shoulder rests as far as I am aware, and this shoulder rest proves why. It is relatively inexpensive, it looks nice, and it works. There may be better should rests out on the market (the one I initially tried my violin on was really nice, but I haven't been able to discover what it was or how much it costs). The part which sits upon the shoulder is nice and comfortable, a soft synthetic-polymeric material of some kind (kind of reminds me of a dense foam of some kind). The part which supports the violin has a a thick, tough yet soft set of "arms" to firmly hold the violin without any slipping. They fold down, which is nice for putting inside a small pocket within a violin case. The height of each of the violin supports is adjusted by a simply turning them clockwise or counterclockwise, thereby raising or lowering them via a screw-action. Overall, it works and I haven't encountered any problems with it. The build quality appears good, and it is as aesthetically pleasing as a shoulder rest can get, in my opinion. I'm very happy with my purchase!

The Kun collapsible 4/4 violin shoulder rest is perfect for the beginner or experienced student. Both ends fold in nicely and the rest fits easily inside the violin case. The non-slip rubber ends fit snugly around the violin body without marring the surface. The curve conforms well to the shoulder and will not slide off, permitting the student to comfortably hold the violin in place with the chin.
