After an extensive (and highly frustrating) search throughout Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, I finally decided to just wait and get well-reviewed curtains from Amazon. It was well worth the wait. I have two sets of these in my bedroom in grey. They look great- feels and looks almost like silk and are a lighter grey/blue color during the day and darker at night. They even come with tiebacks which you don't really need because the curtains are heavy enough by themselves they can stay open on their own. The best part is they actually do block out a lot of light and heat. There used to be a street lamp that shone right into my room at night and that light is completely blocked out by the curtains. I'm also able to sleep past 6 AM now since the curtains block out the morning light (my room faces east and south). It also stays cool and dark in my room when I draw the blinds during the hot day. Would highly recommend these.

I bought these curtains to block out light as advertised, and they totally miss the mark. They shade the light as any normal heavy fabric might, but you can definitely see lots of daylight through them. I posted a picture of them hanging in my living room showing the light glowing through (customer uploaded photo #5). You can clearly see where there is shade vs. direct sunlight outside. Otherwise, the fabric is a soft synthetic. The size, color and grommets all look and feel fine.

Buyers, please be advised that these are not "blackout" curtains. Look at the two pictures I uploaded. These should be called "room darkening" curtains.

These are actually pretty nice curtains, but advertising them as "blackout" is completely wrong.

We live in the southeast and our house has four sliding doors with a southwesterly exposure. The sun is intolerable during the summer. I tried bamboo shades but they offered little privacy and even less protection from the heat and sun. I bought these curtains in navy(matched our decor)which did shield the sun and some of the heat but at the hottest part of the day it seemed that the curtains were attracting the heat due to the dark color. The heat would build up between the glass and the curtains and then begin to seep into the room through osmosis. I really liked the look, feel and hang of the curtains so I purchased more in beige to hang behind the navy. I just threaded the beige through the same rod as the navy and rehung them. The large grommets make them so easy to hang. The light beige (almost cream) acts as a liner and also reflects the sun. The double panels have reduced the heat coming through the sliders by at least 70% and completely blocks the light. My central AC is now actually cycling on and off normally even during afternoon temperatures of 100 degrees. My energy savings have been about 30%.

The fabric looks and feels like silk but is not shiny like real silk. It is surprisingly lightweight yet substantial. I have a lot of cats and a dog so I was nervous that the fabric would collect hair like a magnet but to my delight it does not. I purchased these about two months ago and they look as clean and fresh as the day I hung them. I haven't washed them yet but will update this review if I find a problem after laundering.

For someone with other than a southwesterly exposure, one pair would be more than adequate to block the light and heat. However, even with the cost of two curtains at each window I am very satisfied with the result. They solved my problem beautifully.

I'm a night shift nurse and haven't adjusted well to sleeping during the day. I decided that my easiest option would be to make my room completely dark. After reading reviews, looking at pictures and comparing brands , I decided on these curtains.

They have worked wonders. I bought them in black because I saw other reviewers mentioned the lighter colors didn't block the light. I speak for black only, but no light comes through these curtains! There's a little light that comes through the top and the sides, but that's it. The grommet style is a little more modern than other styles I looked at. We've had some 90 degree days around here this summer and I have noticed a *slight* reduction in the temp of my bedroom since installing these, not a dramatic difference though, but an added bonus. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my sleep since installing these.

A little hint: If you are looking for a true blackout make sure you buy the curtains quite a bit bigger than your window. I bought one set the only gave me a couple inches on each side of my window and there was quite a bit of light. I was unhappy with that so I bought this set and a set for my sliding glass door that fit better. Now I have roughly 13 inches of curtain above, to the sides, and below my window which has helped keep the light out quite a bit. I'm putting a few pictures up so you can see how these curtains look in black.

Update: I've had these up for almost 2 years and still love them! I've been known to over sleep because it keeps my room so dark, but I don't see a problem with that occasionally.

The curtains are awesome on so many levels. First off, I love the way they completely black out the light in our bedroom. For years, we lived in a bedroom that was always bright and never thought that a black out curtain could be made of such a quality fabric and color AND make day seem like night. So now sleeping in on weekends and holidays is sooo much easier. Also, the curtains open wide as the fabric folds nicely so I can see the view of the ocean from my window unlike my last set of drapes that gathered so much that the view was somewhat blocked. I completely recommend these curtains. Purchase them, you won't be disappointed, at least if these are your issues.
