A parts cleaner is something I've always had a need for from time to time; but never actually had. My experience with parts cleaners, before buying this one, had only been with the larger commercial type cleaners. Over the years I have considered buying one but didn't need one often enough to warrant dedicating the space to a large standalone unit.

A few months ago I bought a Ford Bronco, a classic, and needed to rebuild the transmission; so I needed a good way to clean all the parts before putting it back together. I debated on just using a bucket; but, I'm glad I went ahead and bought this instead.

It's lightweight and smallish, so I was able to set it up on one of the tables in the shop area of my garage without it getting in the way of anything else. It was easy to setup and for the most part seems to be well made. So far, I have had no problems with it and it works very well.

However, it is not perfect. First of all, the filter screen that is supposed to attach to the pump, is oversized and does not fit; so it doesn't stay on the pump like it is supposed to. Instead, it falls off and lays on the bottom of the pan. Second, and the only other complaint I have, is that it needs a variable speed or slower pump. The solvent is pumped way too fast for such a small container, so you have to be real careful where you place your parts and the solvent stream; otherwise, you'll end up with a big mess in the floor, on the walls, on you, etc... But you learn to deal with that pretty quickly. It would be nice if you could slow it down to keep it from splattering all over the place. But, a careful person can make it work.

Oh, there is one more thing that I almost forgot to mention.

This little parts washer is fine for small parts. Mineral Spirits has no ill effect when using. Use low odor mineral spirits with a dab of transmission fluid for effective cleaning.

For those with trouble fitting the parts tray use common sense and move the pump and spray tube to line up with the cutout in the parts tray.

If the pickup strainer comes loose add a locking screw to the body of the strainer.

Also if the strainer is passing too large of junk material and is pumping too strong add some Stainless Steel mesh to the insides of the plastic strainer. Just remember to clean it when the washer is used daily.

Replacement for an identical unit I had years ago. Same basic quality and at about $40, a good deal.

Update 5-5-15:
Today was the first day I used the parts washer and it worked great except for one thing; the pump is a little too powerful. I had some greasy bicycle parts in a metal basket and the solvent would bounce off the parts in all directions- including me! The work area is at about half of the overall height and the pressure of the pump causes the solvent to spray in all directions when it hits whatever you are washing. The options to remedy would be:
1. A thicker liquid. I was using paint thinner (mineral spirits) which is a great overall solvent; not highly flammable, not too strong of a smell, etc. I don't know if a citrus based cleaner or other degreaser would be thicker though.
2. Drill out the end of the nozzle. This seems to be the easiest and quickest fix. The volume of the pump wouldn't change but a larger nozzle would reduce the pressure of the liquid and thus reduce the velocity hence less overspray.
3. Replace the flexible gooseneck with a larger rubber hose. I would do that but I like the ability of having the goosneck sit and spray the parts while I do other things. The rubber hose would have to be held or otherwise mounted to something.
4. Replace the gooseneck with a parts washer brush that has a through hole and hose. This seems to be the best option but a quick search on Amazon shows a $10 cheap and poor quality one or a $16+s/h one that might work well. I hesitate to spend an additionall $20-25 for this.

For me, I think I will try enlarging the nozzle to reduce the pressure and see what happens.

Overall, this is a great unit if you know you will regularly glean parts, but if you only have a few things, a few cans of brake cleaner at about $3 each will also do the job.

Pump is too stong for the size washer this unit actually is. This means that not only do your parts take a bath, but so do you! The solution you use, in my case mineral spirits, ends up getting splashed all over the place and makes a huge mess. Should have saved my money and purchased the larger unit like at most shops.

It will work but watch for quality control. The Chinese are knocking these out like pancakes and my motor filter was broken. Mfg. sent me a knew one. Pump is cheap but you only get what you pay for. Esp. from China.

Good parts washer for my needs. This washer is great for washing parts from quarter-inch to about 10 inch size. The flow from the pump is good, and the flexible metal spigot works pretty well (sometimes I wish it was a little more flexible). The sump allows a lot of metal shavings to accumulate before it needs to be cleaned out. The lid locks nicely in the open position, and works well to keep stray dust out and cleaning solution in. Certainly not air or water-tight, but that's not the purpose.

I'm running mineral spirits in mine, cleaning mostly parts, tooling, clamps and fixtures from metal lathe or milling machine operations. So the stuff being cleaned has lots of metal chips and shavings, plus oil and coolant. It all just rinses away, leaving squeaky-clean stuff that air-dries in a few minutes.
