Used this to lift a load of 400 lbs. The first time I used it, there was some "crunching sounds". When I used it again six months later, which was only the second time, the roller bearings fell out, the chain jammed and I could not raise the load (the same 400 lb load). I don't know how others got such good usage from this.

I received this item quickly and well packaged. However, the pull chain could have been placed around the gear grove and then secured with a zip tie to keep the chain on track so it wouldn't have come off and gotten stuck between the gear and cover. Also, the pull chain has several links that are not welded closed and I'm concerned that they might fail while lifting a heavy load. I can get these welded but wouldn't have to if they had a good QA program. I'll be using it right after I have the links welded and have no doubt it will do the job.

This is moderate quality Chinese hoist suitable for home shop and occasional use.

I bought it because I obtained a generator and had no way to take it off my pickup truck as it weighed over 400lb. After building a simple 2x6 cross beam to hand this hoist I was able to remove the generator and lower it to a dolly.

It is the only time I have used it, it worked fine and now I am prepared in case I were to obtain anything else heavy.

I picked this over the others because many of the cheaper hoists were tangled and had to be disassembled. Well, this one had to be taken apart and untwisted before I could use it. After that task, it worked just fine for my purposes. Be prepared to get greasy setting it up.

4 of the 5 worked, but often jam. Rust quickly as soon as the gobs of black oil rub off on you. Open links not uncommon. Typical of cheaply made Chinese products, but passable for a seldom used tool in a home application. Be prepared to cuss while using it. Comparatively cheap at least, but there is not much to them.

Gentlemen,

This Black Bull CHO12 2 ton HD chain hoist, as I understood it,was to be a new unit. The way it was packaged leads me to believe it was not new, but a return. After I got it unpackaged, I found that there were two solidly twisted links, one in the hook area and the other in the hoist area. Fixing the one by the hook was easy enough, but I had never had one of these things in my hand before and was unsure how to proceed to straighten the other link, which obviously was jammed tight. It took a bit of examining to figure how much to take it apart, but after a total of 2 hours of labor on the hoist, it seems to be working fine. ((SO FAR!!!!))

Have only used this once, but I needed to lift a 500lb lathe and didn't have any problems- For intermittent use this is all anyone should need, no reason to spend $100+ on a hoist when this thing will do... I might not buy this if I were going to use it in an industrial setting, but for the average guy it should be more than adequate.

The only minor issue was that the chain had fallen out of it's grooves during shipping, which took a few minutes to coax it back into place. I can imagine that if you're a total retard with tools you might consider that a critical flaw, since it would render the item useless- but anyone who buys a chain hoist should have the technical ability to fix this simple issue.
