Lipton refuses in America to own up to the fact that they have changed the flavor profile of their tea bags--at least the single-serve size meant for hot tea users (I've not check the other varieties). They have dozens of complaints on their website, but keep brazenly saying it's the same tea. They are lying, as I'll prove in a moment.

To see if you've got a box of the "new" Lipton, look in the upper right corner for a green square with a picture of a tea leaf and the words "Made with fresh-pressed tea leaves." This new process is the culprit and is briefly described on the back of the box, but NOT HOW IT CHANGES THE FLAVOR. This process, according to Unilever's website (parent company of Lipton) in describing the impact of this new process on their Yellow Label tea sold in the rest of the world, "delivers a satisfying flavor and a LIGHT, fresh taste with REDUCED BITTERNESS AND ASTRINGENCY." For a tea company to change a blend is a rare thing, especially in popular blends that have been unchanged for generations, but Lipton has done it worldwide.

In other words, Lipton's "fresh-pressed tea leaves" reduce the bitterness and astringency that has always been a part of Lipton's taste profile. These attributes contribute to the actual taste and strength, so YES, LIPTON TEA NOW TASTES DIFFERENT. The blend may be the same, but the processing of it has changed, with a resulting LIGHTER and SMOOTHER tasting tea than previously. Companies always try to put a positive spin on things, and they do describe what has been done on their packages, but they don't tell you it's new, and they don't tell you that it has changed the flavor. This spin is purposely a half-truth, and their refusal to acknowledge the flavor change on their website is nothing more than a lie! I hope consumers across America will hold Lipton's feet to the fire on this one.

Why does Lipton tea taste so bad recently? I have been drinking it for years and now it's disgusting. I will be throwing out this box. I noticed others have made the same comments recently. [...]

Ever since the tea bags have been coming in the new gold foil wrapper they are not the same. I consistanly have small salt size tea leaves in my tea. They get stuck in my teeth and taste horrible. I just threw another cup out. Time to start looking for a new tea to drink. I know I will have to pay more but thats the price for quality. red rose and other brands are cheaper but not as good. If anyone knows of a brand I should try that is like the old lipton please advize me. thank you mike s.

I drink Tea all the time, Iced, hot etc. At times all I want is a big old pot of plain tea and I also make at least four gallons of sweet and unsweetened tea a week for us in the house. I am partial to PG but for the price I can get five times as much Lipton compared to PG and it only takes 8 bags to make a gallon of tea as dark as I like it.

I am also thrilled that I can have it set to auto deliver every four months and if I need it to be more, say in the summer, I can change that.

Sure there are better teas but for my money I will go to the brand that is a household name, Lipton.

I am a big drinker of tea but even for a quick brew, Lipton is made from substandard parts of the Tea plant also including the leaves. As a red rose tea the richness of color and flavor can be compared by buying other loose Tea brands and brewing the exact weight vs. Lipton. Cut the bag open and compare it with a bag of Tetley or Brooke Bond or Taj Mahal for that matter to confirm. No offense to Lipton lovers; I prefer Quality over Quantity. Enjoy your Tea otherwise :)

Tea that is good hot or cold.

I am a big tea drinker and while I use other brands for a variety of tastes, I like to use the Lipton tea bags for such drinks as tea with fresh wedges of lemon or a cup of tea with milk for a creamy flavor.

My kids like iced sweet tea on occasion and this is the favorite brand out of other I have purchased before.

Purchasing the 312 bag bundle means we can enjoy this savory flavor for months to come and share joy with others.

This is a tea that brews well either hot or cold.

I'm a teaholic. This is an excellent value, over all. Can purchase boxes of 100 bags at grocery store but must wait for a sale to get best price. This purchase was a little less than store prices in the long run and I don't have to keep looking for sales all the time.
