I'm surprised nobody has said anything about this major design flaw...

We bought the 12" feeder for our German Shepherd and at first I really liked it, but whenever your dog slurps the water everywhere or even if you spill a little while filling it up the water seeps down underneath the bowl and after a couple of days if you lift up the bowl the dark crevace underneath is growing eyeballs and reeking like you wouldn't believe! I've had to wash it every other day since we got it, but we're going to have to recycle the plastic holder and find an iron one that will hopefully fit the bowls.

Don't waste your money. If you want an elevated bowl get one that won't trap food and water underneath and grow bacteria. Yuck!

If you have a small breed (especially an aging pet) you know that it is important to select the correct height bowl. For some strange reason, it was difficult for me to find very descriptive customer reviews on elevated bowls and it was equally difficult finding out whether a particular bowl would suit my miniature schnauzer. Product descriptions from manufacturers often leave out descriptive information that would be useful for pet owners to determine whether the specific elevated bowl would suit their specific pet. An inch or two in bowl height makes a HUGE difference.

I decided to take my chances and go with the 8" elevated bowl for my miniature schnauzer. As you may know, mini schnauzers are roughly 12" high at the shoulder, which means that they still have to lower their head and neck a bit to get at the 8" bowl, but it works well for my mini schnauzer. In fact, since he doesn't eat much food per meal, I had to remove the metal bowl that comes with this set because it was rather deep for him. I simply found a shallow ceramic bowl to place in the holder and it works very well. I've also had bulldogs, and I believe the 8" dish would be great for a breed like that, but that is up to you if you have a bully.

If my boy were any taller, I'd go with the 12" bowl.

**Big plus - product says it is made in the USA from recycled plastic** - lightweight, not too big to be in the way, sturdy base for my pet's calm eating style, easy to clean plastic, easy to clean metal bowls can fit quite a lot of food for a small to medium sized pet. Again, this review is for the 8" elevated bowls.

I hope this review is descriptive enough to help you determine what height bowl your dog needs.

Great product. Very durable, worked great for my Rottweiler. Just had a German Shepherd die in the family from bloating. After doing online research, the latest studies actually show that using elevated bowls INCREASES the chances of bloating. Make sure that you look into that type of information. Bloating happens very fast, and does not take long to kill your dog.

I ordered these, and while they were a good price and a pretty good product overall, one was blue and the other was cotton candy pink. Not exactly what I want in my kitchen and not exactly in the product description that they will deliver any color they want to. It leads you to believe they are just white. Make sure to check on that, I will be returning mine.

Liked the steel bowls that came with this elevated feeder because I have a pup that uses his bowl as a chew toy. I purchased this feeder for my older American Lab who is taller than the average Field Lab. He's got long lanky legs and as he grew he started laying down to eat. I knew he was uncomfortable so I started looking for a tall feeder for him. In hindsight - I should have gotten one that was adjustable. This one isn't and it actually was a couple of inches too short. In addition, he's a messy water drinker so the water in the bowl ends up underneath it which means you have to put the entire thing in the sink frequently to empty it out. I hadn't anticipated this so it was an unpleasant surprise. I wouldn't buy this feeder again.

I bought this for my golden retriever mix in the 12 inch height. For both food bowls, you can put in the two included metal bowls, or use the plastic stand without the bowls. On the water side, you can use a 2-liter bottle of water to keep the water side replenished (but only without use of the metal bowl).

The problem is that my dog freaked out whenever the water from the 2-liter would gurgle, so we couldn't use that feature. We didn't want to put food directly in the plastic stand, we wanted to be able to clean the bowl. So we use the metal bowls. But when our dog drinks, water gets underneath the bowls and gets disgustingly smelly and stagnant. This thing is too large to get into the sink to clean. We can hose it out in the yard when it's warm, but that doesn't help in the winter. And the smell gets so bad that the dog doesn't want to eat, and I don't want this in the kitchen.

Looking for an elevated feeder where the bowls just rest in a metal frame, with a rubber mat underneath to catch spills. Hopefully, I can avoid the cleaning/smell issues that way.
