I needed this medication for allergies however when I took it as directed ,it did not help me. I instead had a shaking reaction to it. Well the expiration date on the bottle was 2011 . 3 years expired yet somehow was still being sold. ( I purchased it in 2014 ). Luckily I didn't have a more harmful reaction to the medication.

This is a great sleep aid, equivalent to any of the PM drugs without the headache part which is great for me as I don't like to take drugs I don't need. But my order for 100 capsules was filled initially by a large bottle of 1000 capsules of some other drug. The mistake was quickly corrected but when shipping drugs it seems a little more care is called for.

Generic Benedryl that offers the same effectiveness. This can be used as a sleep aid or an antihistaminic. 50 mgs is the equivalent to the diphenhydramine HCL in 2 Tylenol PM. Antihistamines, as a family, usually induce drowsiness. If you haven't taken this OTC med, you might consider 25 mgs to begin with. Tolerance varies with individuals. I take 50 mgs twice a day for allergies. Consult a pharmacist or your physician for any contraindications with preexisting medical conditions or Rx meds. Diphenhydramine HCL needs to be taken 'as directed.' As with all medications, keep out of the reach of children . . . taken in excess this drug causes respiratory depression and may be fatal.

Again, if you are unfamiliar with the drug, please try the 25 mg capsules first. This is an OTC med that is potentiated by alcohol . . . use with care! Diphenhydramine HCL causes a 'hangover' effect in susceptible individuals.

Cost efficient. I have had no problems with incorrect orders or expiration dates. The expiration date is used to indicated the length of time the drug maintains the expected potency and the most common problem is that it is no longer effective. With prolonged use, it may require a higher dosage but it is not considered to be 'habit forming' or addictive. Please note that 'suppliers many vary.'

May also be used in veterinary care . . . if prescribed for a pet and given in larger doses, the 1,000 count 50 mg capsule is more cost efficient.

I don't like to take these every night. I feel certain they're habit forming. That is, they are so good for sleep that I think they'd not work if you took them every night. So usually I take the regular 25mg strength but, if I feel a little uptight, I can trust these to make me sleep hard.
I don't have allergies; just use them for sleep.

I like to keep this on hand in case of bee stings, etc.. It also helps when I have problems falling asleep and I don't wake up groggy the next the morning. Diphenhydramine HCL works just as well as the Benedryl brand, so why pay for a brand name?

diphenhydramine HCL (Benedryl). 25mg tends to be useless if I actually need them. I hate the store bought ones that are painted red or whatever. Capsules are the way to go.

It's funny that some suppliers put the red dye into their antihistamine capsules not realizing many people are allergic to the red dye, but that they are taking the pills because they are allergic to stuff.

Idiots.

This is a good product. I just look for the cheapest ones and buy them. If you use a lot of them, look for the bottles of 1000. They will last a LONG time!

Good old Benadryl generic for a reasonable price. Helps with some allergy problems I have. These are good and help with my itchy eyes and other allergy-related problems. I've taken them to help me sleep at night, also.

Hi there, so originally, I bought this for my St. Bernard because he has bad allergies, and the dog dosage is 1-2mg/lb twice daily, so for an extra huge dog we're talking about ton of pills every day for the conventional 20mg pills that are available in stores.

Therefore, we give him 4 of these 50mg pills twice daily, and he's responded great (in addition to his Dermatologist recommended Duoxo Chlorhexidine + Climbazole Mousse). He has allergy associated pyogenic dermatitis. We've found that although there is no real cure for his condition, the combination of Mousse and and antihistamines keeps his condition in check. This is wonderful news since we've literally spent thousands of dollars on his medical bills to get to this point of a relatively cheap and easy therapy.
Although I'm a human doctor and not a vet, I can say that from what I've been told by vet derm specialists, antihistamines aren't always effective in dogs, so you just have to try and see if it works or not.

Anyhow, my wife and I also have used this drug at nighttime during periods of the year where seasonal rhinitis is in full bloom, and it obviously works great for humans as well. We've also occasionally used this drug whenever we have periods of insomnia, since it pretty much knocks you out. (just be prepared for some morning grogginess)
