The Legend of God's Gun (not to be confused with or to have anything to do with the Spaghetti Western "God's Gun" starring Lee Van Cleef) is quite the album/soundtrack. First off, the film is a twisted love story mixed in with a Psychedelic Western version of Dante's Inferno, in which the Preacher passes through the nine portals to Hell, being the town of Playa Diablo, and attempts to avenge his fallen love. Part of what makes it precious is the amount of time it took for it all to come together. First conceived by Spindrift frontman Kirpatrick Thomas in 2003, the album wasn't officially released (before the film mind you) till Oct. 2008 by Tee Pee Records. The film was finally released by Indican Pictures that same year. However, the Soundtrack had been floating around in various forms, with various cover art, since 2004. As "a work in progress" Director Mike Bruce, who painstakingly underwent the strains of low budget film making continuously instructed composer Kirpatrick to veritably hit all the possible scenes and scenarios you could find in a film score. Romance, tension, action, the showdown, desert wandering, and bullet blessing....It's all here. "Conversation with a Gun" is a classic Tex Ritter take on "El Sobero's" Pied Piper-esque meanderings, Scorpions Venom reminds one of those groovy Manchester shoe gaze days , and possibly the best track on the album, "Preacher's Theme" combines classical/flamenco guitar (played by Bobby Bones) with Kirpatrick's uncanny falsetto. The biggest advantage of this album over most modern contemporary Spaghetti Western attempts here is the rawness. The album was mostly cut on a 4-track cassette recorder.
