I purchased this litterbox for my cat. I thought the grate would be helpful and the flip top would allow me to easily access the litter box. NOT THE CASE!! He still tracked litter all over. But, the biggest problem was that there are no snaps to hold the top on-- so it's very unwieldy. My cat would knock the top off trying to get out (he's 11 pounds). Also, when I'd pull up the top to clean it, the back would come off too. If I had it to do again, I'd purchase an x-large litter box with a 1 piece top. I'm very disappointed.

We purchased two of these to help acclimate our brand new kittens to using a covered litter box. As a former vet tech and shelter worker, I know that the "darkness" that covered boxes provide when the top half isn't fairly "see-through" often is the reason using one fails - so I appreciated these.

That being said - the top halves do not attach to the bottom in any fashion - making it very easy for them to get bumped off as a cat exits and enters. You'll also need to carry them from the bottom (why there is a carrying handle when the two pieces do not connect is beyond me).

They are also fairly small. This isn't a big deal for our two 8-week old kittens, but our regular size adults cats do not use them as they are uncomfortably smooshed once inside. Once we're dealing with all adult-sized cats, we'll need to shell out a little more cash for larger/average-sized boxes with locking tops.

I have a 4 month kitten and his current litter box is not deep enough. This causes the litter to be scattered all over the place when he digs. Since the litter is deep, I don't have to clean the outside area as much as before. The cover top adds privacy and traps the litter from leaving the litter box. I opted for the split top since my kitten tends to be claustrophobic and I just lift the split top up and my kitten loves it. The purpose was to ensure when my kitten digs, the liter will not scatter everywhere and it stays in the litter box. I recommend it for people who don't want the mess outside the litter box.

Lets see- cats have been domesticated for over 2000 years, so a littler box should not be rocket science. This one looks like the pic- the top has no clamp to hold in itn place and comes off with the slightest push from the cat- the half opening cover is a good idea- it could also use some venting to keep from trapping the aroma...

I wish I could give a half star to make it say, I like it, BUT...
First, I followed other users suggestions by taking the lid to the pan. My cats never knocked the lid off, but they are aggressive diggers so the box shakes quite a bit when they are in it, therefore, it would slightly knock the lid out of alignment.
Second, that "Scoop" as they call it is a TOO SMALL. Maybe it was built for a child, IDK, but for standard adult hand, it's difficult to hold and doesn't hold enough waste. I have three little darlings and they put out a lot of waste. I just threw out the tiny scoops and am using my original scoops.
Third, I like paw cleaning grid, it's a good idea, however, my cats like to pee in the front of the box, this prevents them from doing so, which I thought was a good thing, but what they are doing now is somehow strategically contorting their body to pee UNDER the grid, so I have to take that out ever time to clean it. Which brings me to my major gripe.
Fourth, why is the box NOT flat on the bottom. This is why I have deducted two stars. My cats like to pee in the front back and sides of the box, leaving the middle for poop. (I guess logically it make sense since they bury the poops?) ANYWAY, so my problem is scooping, since it's not totally flat, I have a very hard time getting in those groves is quite difficult. (NOTE: I scoop two times a day and I cannot use those bag liners. As i mentioned they are aggressive diggers and just end up tearing the liner.)
Finally, overall I like the box, but there are some definite improvements that can be made. I wouldn't buy this product again unless they made the bottom flat.

Huge improvement to a standard litter box!

The Good:
The top does reduce the amount of litter that gets on the floor
Catches the majority of the odor inside

Bad:
Swinging cat door doesn't move well so the cat knocked the entire top down
The top doesn't secure to the base to knocks off easily

Overall:
Happy. I took the swinging door off and haven't had any issues since.

The handle is not a carrier (which is what I thought). No, the handle is simply for removing the lid off the box. There are no clips or attachments keeping the 2 pieces together. Ideally it would clip together so you could actually carry it from room to room or to the garbage can using the handle on the lid. The door often gets stuck open as it's not on a hinge really. It's just a piece of plastic that pushes back & forth. The problem with it being open all the time is all the smell you're trying to contain gets out! The lid does help with the litter spray everywhere but my cat is super messy so even with the lid & the attached litter tray catcher, he STILL manages to spread litter outside the box everywhere!
