I was watching a cooking show on TV, when suddenly a chef in the background pulled out a pair of huge tweezers and used them to delicately move some hard-boiled eggs. Rarely am I struck by an epiphany while watching procedural/instructional shows, but at that moment it hit me: what a brilliant idea! Larger tongs, even with the silicone grips, are usually not able to grasp "delicate" items, and the smaller, scissors-style tongs tend to have holes in the grip so that while you have more control, they may not be able to handle smaller items.

So, without further ado, I hopped online and looked around online for a while until I found the RSVP Endurance Silicone Tipped Tweezers, which I admit are an improvement upon the pair that I saw on the show (the chef's pair did not have the silicone tips). I have used them for a few days now, and I must say:

I love these!

A few points:

• Bacon, thin strips of meat, even crepes, can be easily handled without the worry of awkward handling or fear of dropping/damaging the product.

• The silicone allows you to handle extremely hot items; you can reach into an oven to turn hot items during the baking process,

• Do you need to fish in a jar for a cherry for a sundae? These make it so much easier (and less messy).

• Did you drop something into a hot dish and need to get it out, and a spoon, fork, or regular pair of tongs won't do? Again, these tweezers are great for grabbing small things in a hot pot of liquid, or better yet, a steamer tray.

I was looking for animal feeding tongs for reptiles and amphibians, and these serve the purpose very well. The soft ends prevent injury to the animal during feeding. They are large, as described (12"). I can imagine that they could have a number of household uses, including in the kitchen.

My new favorite bacon tongs! These things are great. I read another review where the reviewer complained they didn't open wide enough to turn a piece of chicken. Which is true but I don't think they are intended to. They are giant tweezers and more useful for turning thinner or smaller things in a skillet and the silicone tips don't scratch and make gripping easier. They do open about an inch wide.

These are perfect for moving hot foods, I use them when working with photographing food and other hot equipment. Furthermore, I use them for handling tedious small items on the tables prior to photographing so that I don't get any fingerprints on my glass, plexiglass, etc. I'm sure this is also perfect for kitchen use. I bought these because when crud gets stuck in my garbage disposal my hands are not slender enough to reach down inside. These work perfectly: The rubber tips are flexible enough to pull out twisties, coins, little chunks of plastic. And I can do it by feel rather than having to try to peer down inside.

Now, maybe I should be more careful about stuff getting in the disposal, but I'm not. And these work great.

I use these rather than what is sold in the pet trade. The tips are excellent so my tarantulas will not damage their fangs and the silicone is dishwasher safe. You can use them for turning bacon too, they are heat resistant to 600 degrees. I bought a second pair after trying the first.
