This review is for the Ren and Stimpy Best Of Volume 2 and not the show itself (which is without question awesome!). Now you're probably watching an episode from this compilation on Amazon Instant right now like Jimminy Lummox, Prehistoric Stimpy, or A Hard Day's Luck and asking yourself while watching one of them "Hey! I remember another scene after this part. What happened?" Well, I'll tell you. You see, when it was announced that Ren and Stimpy would be released on DVD, fans were just happy, happy when they hoped the episodes would be presented uncut (some episodes like The Big Baby Scam for example were later edited for repeats). Unfortunately, when it was released, most of the episodes were the TNN/Spike TV masters. These masters aired when Spike was called TNN to commemorate the newest and adult-themed incarnation of the show; Ren and Stimpy's Adult Party Cartoon (a show I myself don't really like). The result to these masters were fake fade-in/outs which were made to make room for commercials, DVNR, time compression (a process in which something is sped up mostly due to make room for more commercials), and cuts made for time. John K. didn't even know! When the next volume featuring the Games Animation episodes were announced, fans hope that they too would remain uncut. Sadly, they too were cut and to add insult to injury, these cuts were made for no reason whatsoever (I doubt these versions aired on TNN)! To make matters worse, the same thing happened to the 3rd and final volume. What you're watching on Amazon Instant are the DVD versions (and I'm talking about on all 3 of the Ren and Stimpy Amazon Instant compilations).Read more ›

We have always loved Ren and Stimpy, and now we get to share that enjoyment with our small children. Something I notice now is that behind the weirdness, there are simple positive lessons for kids -- brush your teeth, don't expect something for nothing, consider the thoughts of others.

With John K. out, this clearly wasn't the same humor and quality of the first season. Not worthless, just way lower in concept and art.

One of the best Cartoons on the planet. And if they had cartoons in other regions of the universe, this cartoon would turn those cartoons into slaves and make them mine Asteroids for precious minerals.

This is my #1 all time favorite cartoon.
I was 9 years old when this came out with the Snick lineup - Are You Afraid of The Dark, All That, Clarissa Explains It All, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, The Secret World of Alex Mack. That was when Nickelodeon was so much fun and easygoing. Oh yeah Guts and Legend of Thr Hidden Temple.

Characters: Powdered Tost Man, Jimminy Lummox, Muddy Mud Skipper, Mr. Horse, that insane dude George Liquor American, the circus midgets, Ask Dr. Stupid, the psycho firefighter who hated circus midgets, the unseen face couple (the really hot wife and her husband that has the pipe, sock garters and a burgundy colored house robe), various roadkill.

I had the talking Ren doll - you would pull his belly button and he would say stuff like "why don't you play with your magic nose goblins" and "you fat bloated eeediot!" My brother had the farting Stimpy - squeeze him, he poots and his tounge would go up.

That was around the time Disney's Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin came out, Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Tale Spin, then Aeon Flux, which was part of MTV's Oddities (The Head, Daria, The Maxx, Bevis and Butthead). Also Pirates of Dark Water (which was never completed) - I could go on forever!

If could go back in time during the 1990s when things was more awesome, simple, enjoyable, music was music and cartoons were cartoons - I totally would.

But I can't - I just enjoy having a great time watching Ren and Stimpy with my kids.

Ren and Stimpy was/is one of a kind. A free-wheeling peak inside the mind of Ren and Stimpy's creator, Jon Kricfalusi. Speaking from an artistic standpoint, this cartoon broke the mold. Animation "tactics" that were incredibly unique, even compared to today's standards. Each of these box sets are worth the money, every cent. I was growing up when the episodes were first airing. I remember laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. After watching the whole collection (at my own pace no less) I've realized that nothing has changed! If you still laugh at the sound of farts the way that you did as a child, then this is the collection that you should own without thinking twice. I think that the first seasons are the best overall. The first two seasons come together, so I'd start there. But, you could purchase any season and start with that. Also, if you have Amazon Prime, or Hulu you can watch a short series of newly made episodes, a series of 6-7 episodes that are, definately more suited for the adult viewer. I hope this review was helpful to somebody.

The original season shows are great. Sophisticated. ..creative...clever. ..superb...references...great audio tracks and innovative animation. Everything that followed was a caricature of the genius of the first season.
