I'm so glad I recently found Dexter-Russell spatulas! I already had the 5-1/2 inch spatula/turner, and it is fantastic. We decided a larger one would be better for pancakes on a griddle, so I purchased this larger, 8-inch version. Husband declares it to be the perfect tool for the cast-iron griddle, and I presume, for the grill as well.

We had already determined that plastic & nylon spatulas never seemed thin enough to handle a pancake properly. Plus, they were not only bad for us, but bad for the cast iron, since they can melt. So, no more plastic spatulas for us! Since we have also gotten rid of chemical-based non-stick in favor of stainless steel and cast iron (properly seasoned), metal tools was a logical next step for us.

The metal blade is thin to slip between the food and the cooking surface, and has a little flexibility to it. The corners are rounded to protect the cast iron seasoning from scratches and gouges. The stainless steel blade is smooth and pretty much non-stick naturally.

I have one suggestion for you if you find that your lovely wooden handle is a bit rough: Vigorously rub the handle with a piece of brown paper sack. Grocery sack is perfect, but with diminishing availability, I use a lightweightlunch sack, or even a heavy-weight paper towel. Believe it or not, the paper acts like very fine sandpaper, and smooths out the little rough spots to a silky smoothness. Then I give the handle a light rub with mineral oil, wiping the excess off. The oil helps the handle repel moisture and keeps the wood from drying out. Occasionally, repeat this process to keep the wood looking and feeling great!

Try not to put your wood or wood-handled cooks tools in the dishwasher, as it will dry out the wood, even with the heat-dry turned off. Hand-washing is recommended, and with the excellent quality of the stainless steel on this piece, clean-up is a breeze!

My wife ordered this product for me as a birthday present. I had been looking at this item and wasn't sure I wanted to pay the almost $30 for it so my bride took the plunge for me and I must say it meets every expectation I had, and I find myself discovering new uses for this spatula. I was concerned that the blade might not be flexible enough, however, I find that it is perfect for getting under the thinnest cookies and will support a small pizza coming out of the oven. I use it for everything on the grill. I can highly recommend this product and have subsequently purchased another for my daughter and her boyfriend.

The price is the only reason to take away anything from this item; however, I will not be the person to do it. It has proven its worth in my home. I like having the extra working surface. It is big, but turning pancakes, eggs, burgers, etc: perfect. Also use it when making dishes such as fried rice. It doesn't make sense if you have smaller pans, but if you are using big skillets, griddles, and such, this is the ticket.

I do some short order cooking on Sundays for our local FRA branch. I bought this to replace a plastic handle turner that disappeared. Since I intend to keep it I opted for the walnut handle knowing that it would only be hand washed and I know how to treat the wood handles to keep them nice. This is very heavy compared to the same turner made by the same company with the white plastic handle. Not just because of the handle but the spatula itself seems to be thicker. The weight and more importantly the less flexibility was noticeable when cooking breakfast for four hours.

My husband who fancies himself a "short order cook" broke the only spatula we had that worked well with our kitchen grill. I saw this one and decided to give my wannabe chef a stocking stuffer and bought it. He absolutely loves it!! Every morning when he makes his bacon, eggs, and hash browns, he comments about how much he likes it! I haven't used it yet because he has pointed out to me that it is HIS!! It is well made and sturdy and I don't think you can go wrong with this purchase. It's a really good buy!

It is larger than you would think from the measurements and pictures. But it is also very well made as I have come to expect from Dexter-Russel. The blade has a nice balance between rigidity and flexibility, the corners are nicely rounded to prevent scratches, and the handle is lovely.

I use mine to flip crepes in my Lodge 10.5" round griddle instead of a traditional crepe spatula, it works perfectly. The size means the crepes don't slide off too easily, and the thin blade is able to get under the crepes without difficulty.

I can also use it to remove things from inside my small toaster oven without burning myself. And it does a great job moving cakes off the base of springform pans.

The only problem is storage due to its size.

Great kitchen tool. I use it for pulling pizzas out of the oven to grilling. Just what I needed. The tip on this is rounded, so I dont' think it's a good use for Japanese style grilling. However, the turner is relatively flexible.
