Ive had one of these binders for over 15 years of everyday use. scars, scratches, little dings, you name it. - until the day i left it on my van bumper and drove off. - i found it about 2 miles from my house with apparent damage from cars running over it. dont get me wrong i flattened a good portion of it and destroyed the binder completely. but ill tell you this - it saved my IPAD that was inside in its case... enough said.... on to buy another one.

Really. I mean that. It is a metal box designed to withstand the stresses of the general contractor. Ya the edges may need "de-burring" and such, but geez - you're most likely a contractor who handles modifications to tools and products all the time. Take your file and the 10 seconds of your life to de-burr the edge. Done. I would rather that then pay 40 to 50 dollars extra for the same metal box de-burred for me.

I have had mine for 4 years and it has done what I asked it to do and for the money have expected nothing more. I didn't even need to de-burr it. It holds the necessary paperwork you need it to. It has a strong clip on top to secure some weighty items if needed. At the end of the day, week, month or whenever I clean it up a bit - straighten out the papers and re-load it ready for more work.

After reading some of the prior reviews, I was expecting that the lid would have come off during shipping! I was instead pleased to find a well made tough box. I think some people are surprised when they take it out of the box about how light the case is. It may seem flimsy at first; however, on examination I think it will take a lot of abuse.

Unfair criticism. . . .One reviewer says that the case must be deburred prior to using or you might get cut. Obviously this is possible - - if you put your hand on a table, put as much weight as you can muster on a corner of the case and drag it across the back of your hand - you might be able to gouge yourself enough to bleed. I wouldn't write a critical review of a power saw because I cut my fingers off with it.

The clip for holding papers on the top is generously wide and there are three strong springs for a tight clamp. This is American engineering and craftsmanship at its best. Order without concern.

One small suggestion for the manufacturer. Make the thumb tab for opening the lid a little longer. In new condition, the catch is hard to release.

Overall, a very well designed and functional product. Too bad that the edges and corners of the aluminum sheet components had to be deburred, and the corners had to be rounded. If not done, the edges could cut your hands and the corners could tear your clothes or upholstery in your wehicle. Seems like fewer and fewer manufacturers are likely to completely finish their products anymore. I guess hand finishing is too expensive. That's why manufacturers are going overseas for cheap labor and hand finishing.

Okay, first off the edges are unfinished = sharp.
Next the clip on top that holds the lid closed is a bit strong, to fix that look closely at the spring and turn the bent piece 90 degrees so its on the OUTSIDE not the inside where it will be lost.
Now its easier to open and later can be turned back to tighten after the spring relaxes.
The business card holder is awkward and can tear up cards so watch out for that.
Aluminum corrodes but it does not rust. Rust refers only to iron and steel corrosion.
Aluminum is actually very prone to corrosion. However, aluminum corrosion is aluminum oxide, a very hard material that actually PROTECTS the aluminum from further corrosion. Aluminum oxide corrosion also looks a lot more like aluminum (dull gray to powdery white in color), so it isn't as easy to notice as rusted iron.
And lastly, the pencil holder needs a smaller hole, pens and shortened pencils slip out with slight shakes.

Clipboard is light but you have to be very careful how you handle it because of the sharp metal edges. For instance, if you have leather car seats, you can't just place it on the seat and be "worry-free" about it. There's a space for pens inside but what's up with the big gap between the pen holder and document section? The gap allows pens to fall down into main compartment when you carry clipboard around, and this is very annoying because you are digging for crap when you open it. (Not very professional when in front of customers.) Also, a typical manilla folder and standard 2-pocket folder, which holds 8.5X11 docs, will not fit....so one way way to separate different types of docs is by using different colored paper in between - again, not very professional.

Extremely cheap thin gauge aluminum...
I had these types of clipboards in the 90's (the smaller ones...) the sheet metal alloy they then used was twice as rigid/strong...probably steel...
The cheap thin gauge soft sheet metal on this clipboard makes the metal on a coffee can look heavy duty....
If this is dropped and it lands on it's corner this is probably finished...
You could buy this and impress your girlfriend by squashing it with one hand...
