When I received this adapter, I used it to connect the DisplayPort on my Lenovo W510 (Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit) to a Vizio M221NV 1080p HDTV via one of its HDMI ports. By the way, I used an inexpensive HDMI cable that I had previously purchased through Amazon, and it works perfectly.

My PC video was immediately displayed on the TV, but the audio was not being transferred to the TV's speakers. I went into Control Panel -- Hardware and Sound -- Sound -- Manage Audio Devices. On the Playback tab in "Manage Audio Devices," I found my Vizio M221NV listed as an available device. I highlighted the M221NV icon and made it the preferred device for sound using "Set Default." After clicking "OK," etc. to return from Control Panel, I started another video on my PC. At that point, both the video and sound were coming through the TV just as I had hoped they would. I have yet to use this adapter with my Toshiba 46G300U, but I have no reason to doubt that it will work equally well with that HDTV.

I would highly recommend this adapter Premium Black DisplayPort Male to HDMI Female Adapter, especially since the price is now even lower than when I ordered mine from Amazon. It performs exactly as it should, transferring both video and audio to the HDTV from the DisplayPort of the PC, and the price performance is outstanding!

UPDATE (1/8/2013): I have now been using this adapter for two years, and it continues to function perfectly. Today, I received a 25' HDMI cable from Amazon to allow connecting my computer to my Toshiba 46G300U HDTV without having to move the computer. The HDTV display quality using the longer HDMI cable is excellent.

I purchased this adapter to use on my Dell E6500. It performed flawlessly, for a while... The clips that retain the adapter failed to retract after about 50 or so removals from my laptop. I ended up basically destroying the device in order to remove it.

Word of advice, if it does get stuck in your computer, crack the case of the device open with a pocket knife then use channel locks to compress the two small metal buttons. and remove... don't yank the pins out of the Display Port side like i did. I was able to gently reinsert the pins and it still works for the moment (until i can get a different adapter shipped any way)

This device works great as long as you do not remove it every day, the retaining clips are kinda pointless since the hdmi port on the other end has none.

For some reason display port designers felt a need to integrate a locking mechanism when plugged into the port. This causes all kinds of problems and did with this adapter. Ignoring the general design of the display port connection and focusing on this adapter, the problem is that the release button stopped working after only a few uses. There's some spring action going on in there and the thumb press to release it stopped moving the metal locking parts to release the adapter. So it ended up becoming a tug and pull battle which then ended up with me winning when I ended up yanking the entire casing off from the metal plug part still stuck in my laptop port and my hand holding the remaining black housing along with with the bare metal connection contacts point strips that used to be part of the metal connector part. There was no way to repair the plug after that point so I ended up just tossing it. Then I had to use a needle-nosed plier to get the remaining metal plug, being careful not to damage the port on the laptop side. The whole experience is like removing a tick (which I never had to do, thank goodness), the light a match and burn it trick didn't work, and then when you pulled at it, it ripped the body off but the head was still stuck.

As for displaying, it works fine.

Bottom line: get a different adapter.

After noticing my Lenovo W510 ThinkPad did not have an HDMI output, I had to find an alternate method to connect my laptop to my Samsung flat-screen via an HDMI cable. After doing some research and reading Mountain Man's review, I thought I would give this product a shot.

Upon receiving the adaptor, I simply connected it to the video disply slot, hooked up the HDMI cable, and got video. However, as stated in Mountain Man's review, I had no sound. After going into my control panel and clicking on the sound button, I quickly noticed my Samsung television as a sound source. Immediately after choosing the Samsung option, BAM..sound! I then went into the advanced options and increased the quality; very simple.

Additionally, to test the other comment concerning the teeth being an issue; I unplugged/plugged the adaptor 25+ times and it still works as new. Of course, taking my time and firmly pressing the release button while performing the simple task might make the difference. In closing, I would recommend this product to anyone looking to connect their Lenovo W510 ThinkPad to a TV source using an HDMI cable.

I recently bought some HDMI extension plates making it much nicer to attach my various portable HDMI devices to my TV. Tonight I decided to plug my Thinkpad to my TV and found this adapter in my A/V drawer. After plugging the adapter into my PC, the black plastic housing separated from its metal innards, leaving it locked. I immediately remembered this happened shortly after I bought it in August 2011. I must have forgotten to throw it in trash!

I've uploaded 4 photos illustrating the problem. Now to look around on Amazon for a better DP to HDMI product.
