I'm a retired school teacher and not a big science fiction fan, but a friend of mine recommended this book, so I decided to read it. And I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

It begins with a prologue briefly reviewing the history of physics and the field theories. I wasn't very familiar with these theories, so I was glad for the overview. It was very easy to understand.

The first chapter starts with a scientist on an Oprah-type talk show. I was really surprised at how well the author nailed everyone of the characters. The two old ladies on the couch sounded just like my aunts talking. Every character felt really unique and I found myself caring what happened to them.

The story takes a little while to build up, because there are a lot of characters to introduce and lot of exposition to get through, but once you do, the story gets so exciting and I found myself not being able to put it down. Even the fight scenes were exciting to read and easy to follow.

I was really surprised at the end. I think the author is planning a sequel, because he left it wide open.

This book is more about the consequences to a society of a new scientific discovery than it is a typical weird science fiction, alien abduction, weird creatures with names you can't pronounce story. I recommend it to anyone that likes books that make you think a little about the world around you.

I picked up this book after skimming thru the "Look Inside this book" feature, and the first chapter was so funny, I decided to pick up a copy.

Basically, there's this accountant who has made the greatest scientific discovery ever, and the real scientists are mad that they didn't find it first. They try to manipulate him, threaten him, and even send in thugs to destroy a printing press to shut him down. And they would succeed if not for the Wandering Koala, this guy who can't talk who shows up in time to help.

I was really impressed with the characters in this book. They seemed like real people. I actually found myself caring what happened to them. And the writing was so quick and witty. The author obviously spent a lot of time on how he put the words together, because there is a real rhythm to them. And the plot was really tight, yet the author dropped in these interesting vignettes every so often which really added to the mood. And the ending wasn't at all what I expected.

If you like books that make you think and that examine society and the reasons why they do what they do, you'll love this book.
