It carries usb data.

No external power for high speed transfer, and the ports are rather close set.
Bought this because I wanted the 'official setup'.

I'd go with a nicer hub if I were you. I've tested them, they work fine with Rockband.

The first time we used this, one of the prongs in one of the USB connections broke. This caused, unbeknownst to us, the wires to short out. The X-box showed a red ring of death and we had to unplug it to restart it. THe USB hub started to smoke so we disconnected it. It's unusable. It was only $5 or so, so I disposed of it and didn't bother returning it.

If you have a problem with your original USB hub for Rockband, you will probably find that no one else sells this as a separate item. They want to sell you the entire game and equipment to get the hub. This is exactly what you need to replace it.

The one I received worked exactly as expected, and was sold for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!
