The description list /w7. So I assumed it would work with Win 7, when I connected to my laptop a few seconds pass and a message pops up..."Hard drive needs to be formatted". I hope I was able to stop it in time. I'll not know until I order another unit. I then checked the packaging and on the front it says "Win XP". It may work if fine if I needed an XP unit but I don't
