This product is labeled as non-toxic, but I have concerns about ingredients. The third ingredient is Neolone 950. That's a trademark name for methylisothiazolinone which is a slow-releasing bactericide. It's rated a 6/"moderately hazardous" in the Skin Deep database. Its use is restricted in cosmetics in Canada and Japan and there's a 2002 article in the Journal of Neuroscience about its neurotoxic properties (Du, S., B.A. McLaughlin, S. Pal and E. Aizenman. In vitro neurotoxicity of methylisothiazolinone, a commonly used industrial and household biocide, proceeds via a zinc and ERK MAPK-dependent pathway. J. Neurosci. 2002; 22, 7408-7416.). I'm sharing this because like most people interested in Piggy Paint, I wanted to get it for my daughter because it is "kid-friendly" and "non-toxic". And, yes, it's great to have a formaldehyde-free product, but I don't think the preservative used is as safe and non-toxic as it is made out to be.

UPDATE (11/10/13): Since writing this review, Piggy Paint has updated their ingredient list on their website. It appears they use neem oil as a preservative instead of methylisothiazolinone now.

Amazon was supposed to be sending me a Amazon Vine book on the partition of India, instead I got a tube of Piggy Paint nail polish. Since Amazon gave me the choice of keeping it, disposing of it, or donating it, I chose option A and decided to have some fun with it. It is a very pretty shade of pink and seems to go on fairly easily. I was able to do all my fingernails and have it dry within fifteen-twenty minutes. I have a disability that leads to fine motor problems which means anything requiring a delicate touch takes longer than it might the normal person. I did however make quite the statement when I showed up at the hockey game in my hometown, sporting pink fingernails. My mother just started laughing and shook her head.

All jokes aside, while it is quite easy to get the nail polish on the fingernails, it is not so easy to get it off. In some places, it chipped off, but where it didn’t chip off, boy howdy it is stuck on there good. Weeks later and following a good dose of nail polish remover and several soaks in the tub, I still have small areas of pink nail polish. Most of it should chip off in a bath or with nail polish remover, but you will most likely end up with these stubborn pink spots for weeks afterword.

Consider it a learning experience.

this sweetpea sparkly light pink piggy paint is one of the 4 bottles of piggy paint we own (red "sometimes sweet", purple "midnight pansy", blue "sea quin") and i have to say, it's a LOT lighter than it looks on the screen. it comes out looking more like a pearlescent light, light, pale, shimmery pink. i was looking for something with a little bit more pigment and just ordered the forever fancy pink. the other piggy paints we own are pretty well pigmented. i didn't want to rate it lower just because the color was so light - you NEED at LEAST 2 coats of this stuff (and any other piggy paint you purchase) to get any sort of wear longer than a day or two.

I know it's expensive and I know it chips off easily, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Look, Piggy Paint is safe and non-toxic and if you want a nail polish that lasts for 3 weeks and shines like a diamond then go buy any run of the mill nail polish that's full of chemicals with names you can't pronounce.

Piggy Paint gets 5 stars from me. It comes in cute colors, has virtually no smell (whatever smell it has reminds me mildly of peanuts) and is entirely safe for your children to use.

Two things worth noting: I also ordered the pink but received a darker, almost purple color. Secondly, I accidentally dropped a bottle of this on our wood floors and it broke and spilled all over. The glass hardly slivered/shattered (easier to cleanup and no glass shards all over the place), and the nail polish was really easy to clean up off the floor.

I would recommend that if you are interested in this product, you know the following: You must use several coats. You must use the top coat. You must understand it will likely flake off quite quickly. I thought it was something I could use for myself while my baby was young because it contained fewer chemicals and might not be so bad if she put my fingers in her mouth. However, I put it on and it was flaking off just a few hours later. In the end it's best to get this product for your children and know that it is really just for fun, not for fashion.

I will start off by saying, I love the color and the product arrived promptly, but I do not like this polish at all..The problem is, it has zero staying power
it doesn't last 10 minutes before it is all chipped up..The worst part was when i was cooking, the nail polish was flaking off in my food....I will never buy this product again..

this sea quin blue color is nice and opaque. you definitely need at least 2 coats for the nail polish to last at all. it is definitely more turquoise/teal than it looks like on the computer screen (on my screen it looks more like a pale blue). my 4 year old loves it and recently asked why i was using HER nailpolish on my fingers... what can i say? it's a fun color, especially for spring! adults, throw on a good top-coat and you won't have to deal with the polish beginning to chip in a day (which is what happens to my daughter when we just put on one light coat). i don't put any "regular/toxic" topcoat on my daughter because it'd counter the purpose in buying this polish in the first place. i'm thinking of buy the piggy paint topcoat to see if it's worth it - but it makes you wonder, if they can make a non-toxic topcoat, why don't they just make the regular polish a little longer lasting?
