Product Description

Product Description

The PJD6381 is the lightweight and portable ultra short-throw XGA DLP projector – capable of producing a 77-Inch image at a distance of only 3.5 feet. Weighing in at just 6.1 lbs, with 2500 ANSI lumens and a 2400:1 contrast ratio, it delivers great multimedia lessons in the classroom or dynamic presentations in the boardroom. BrilliantColor DLP technology produces more vibrant colors, while the high brightness and contrast ratios make this projector shine in virtually any lighting situation. This projector is designed for table-top use or can be mounted on the ceiling or wall for classrooms and meeting rooms. Built with DLP with Brilliant Color TM technology, The PJD6381 delivers 2500 lumens and 2400:1 contrast at a native 1024 x 768 XGA resolution. The short throw ratio enhances performance even more, delivering almost twice the virtual brightness of comparable standard throw projectors. The PJD6381 offers both security bar and Kensington lock port for increased theft deterrence. There are 8 default picture modes (Brightest, Daylight, ViewMatch, Cinema, Standard, Blackboard, Greenboard and Whiteboard) to choose from depending on the user’s individual projection screen or board type.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite ready for 3D, January 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ViewSonic PJD6381 XGA Short Throw DLP Projector -120Hz/3D Ready, 2500 Lumens, 2400:1 DCR (Electronics)
I bought this projector in order to use it with the N'vidia 3D vision glasses and play my games in 3D.
I have already owned 2 Epson LCD Projectors and this is the first time I am using DLP.
The installation was easy to plug to the PC, the build quality looks good and the specs are excellent for this price range.
Then I turned it on and my first surprise after placing it at the same location than the previous was that I was projecting on the ceiling and with a huge size. Mind you, the Epson projectors have already a very short throw angle but this one bits it by a lot. I ended up placing it on the floor at about 6 feet from the wall I project on and the size of the screen is of about 15feet in diagonal.
The lighting was excellent at 60Hz but started dimming seriously when switched to 120Hz. Another thing is that I had to go to the native resolution of 1024x768 in order to be able to use the refresh rate of 120Hz.
Then the bad part... Running the N'vidia 3D software, it did not recognize the projector as 3D ready. It is actually not on the list of supported projectors yet. I should have checked this before buying.
Another thing is that the quality of the image seems good for Windows environment but for the movies and games it is not that good. I may have to tweak the parameters a lot to get the quality I had with the previous one.
In clear:
Pros:
Well built, lamp life of about 6000 hours, extremely short throw angle and very good lighting at 60Hz.
Cons:
Not yet 3D compatible, Placement of the projector can be tricky (on the floor?), quality image inferior to older LCD models like Epson. It seems I can't get my lens to give me a crisp image, there still some imprecision in the image.
Conclusion:
Good projector for people who have a short space for projection, do not need 3D yet and can't have a dark room to use for projection. Parameters tweaking may be necessary to get the best image for gaming and movies.

3.0 out of 5 stars No HDMI input !! ps3, hd, 3d - read here for solution., April 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ViewSonic PJD6381 XGA Short Throw DLP Projector -120Hz/3D Ready, 2500 Lumens, 2400:1 DCR (Electronics)
1) Who makes a 3D and HD projector and doesn't put a HDMI input on it?! I'm so so pissed off about that! 820 dollars and no f'n HDMI input... M'fer! Well luckily I found out a solution read below. This was my first projector so I didn't know hdmi was so important. When you take your computer monitor and blow it up to fill up the whole wall it looks crappy,... except for divx videos, they looked ok but I don't know why.

2) Hollywood doesn't want you to copy hd videos (actors are overpaid I think it's criminal taking capitalism to an extreme making me waste 820 on a projector pushing my face in the mud) so every single HD player or game console and ps3 and xbox with hdmi out uses HDCP encryption. So this projector won't play hdmi because it doesn't have a little hdcp compliant chip in it and no HDMI input connector that would go with it. Luckily there is a company hdfury.com that makes a screw on hdcp compliant adapter that you can attach on to the back of this projector and you can play ps3 hdmi out on this projector! Thank god, because I bought this thing to play the ps3 in my room. I'm getting the ps3 next paycheck.
If you have an hd blue ray player or similar go to [...] and they sell adapters that fix the hdcp issue.

3) This projector only works at coffee table level otherwise you will not be able to get it to focus the same on the whole screen. If you are going to use this in your medium sized room you have to have a futon or couch bed and put this projector on a table in front of it and push your bed back almost all the way back. If you put it on the floor the whole top 30% of the picture will be opposite in focus of the bottom 60% so don't put it on the floor or mount it on the ceiling

4) The best focus you can get with this will still show the upper right and left corner blurry. Hey sorry but that's the truth but I didn't notice it when I was playing divx movies from the internet so I'm guessing once I get the hdfurry adapter and ps3 I'll probably totally forget it is there.

5) 3D what? ....How?
Only through your modern 2010 $1500+ computer with a Nvidia video card plus the $200 nvidia kit as a computer monitor but not HD quality since there is no hdmi input. I'm guessing even the hdfurry adapters will interfer with the 3D sync.
DLP is great for 3d and the best choice since that is what the movie theatres use but for the stupid ass engineer at viewsonic that didn't put a hdmi input on this it becomes almost worthless. You can maybe play star trek online 3d but not in hd.

6) My opinion. Man to man. None of this would be a problem if hollywood would not have tried to keep you from taking away their millions of dollars by making that stupid ass dhcp s***. These f'ers can pull up to your women any time in a lambrogini and offer her 3 to 10 g's and you think she will say no? He'll just take your girl away like that if he wants. When he makes a movie, copy that s***, spread that crap for free. If I was that rich I would spend atleast one day a week passing around hundreds to poor dudes. Even oprahs rich short fat arse gives stuff away to women all the time but when do you see rich male producers or actors trying to help you out? Naw..... f that! These guys show no empathy to other males that are not rich. They show no to little respect for you so don't show them any. They're taking capitalism too far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Projector, February 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ViewSonic PJD6381 XGA Short Throw DLP Projector -120Hz/3D Ready, 2500 Lumens, 2400:1 DCR (Electronics)
Highly recommended. It has a real short throw, in that you can put it nearly next to the screen and it fills the whole thing. Haven't had time to play with it but it seems to be an excellent projector.
