First, let me get the complaints I have about this treadmill out of the way, all of which are minor, but numerous:

- When I'm walking or running on the treadmill, I get shocked every time I touch one of the metal parts. I had the tech from the local store I bought it from come out and verify that it's properly grounded. He called Lifespan, and they said it might have something to do with the environment, or the shoes I was wearing. Basically, 'we don't have a clue.' The demo unit in the store doesn't shock me with the same pair of shoes on. I know this can be an issue with treadmills in general, so who knows if maybe the air is too dry or something in my apartment. Nothing that a little velcro on the metal rails can't fix.
- I don't like the speed/incline buttons on the side rails. I always end up pressing them on accident.
- As far as I know, there's no way to enter custom stats (such as weight and age) without having to install an app on a PC and transfer via the USB key. (Guess tablet-only users are out of luck.)

Having said all that, I don't think it can be overstated how QUIET this thing is, which is why I like it. I was concerned whether or not having a treadmill in a 1st floor apartment would be loud enough to disturb the neighbors, but no such worries with this unit. It also works great with my Polar FT4 wireless heartrate monitor. The Polar HR monitor can be wonky sometimes, with sporadic readings that are all over the place, but that's not the threadmill's fault.

There's an exercise program on the treadmill where you can input a target heartrate, and the treadmill will speed up or slow down, to keep your heartrate at the target you set. I hadn't heard anyone talk about this, so figured I'd mention it here. It actually works pretty well.

We have been wanting to buy a treadmill for some time. We have a gym membership and the gym is only 3 miles from our home, but the 8pm to 9pm time frame we'd like to go in the evenings all the treadmills are usually taken (it's a smaller gym) so we decided to buy a treadmill for the home. As a child growing up my parents had a $400 treadmill they bought from Sears, always had issues, didn't seem to sturdy - even recently my mother bought a basic treadmill from Wal-Mart - Golds Gym or something like that - good for her needs.

Having been spoiled by commercial treadmills over the past 10 years I knew I wanted a higher end treadmill. Nothing worse than trying to work out no an inferior treadmill. I had been considering models from Sole and ProForm - both in the $1500-$2000 range. I had been combing craigslist to find one of these used, where prices ran $700-$1000 typically. Anyway we recently had a Best Buy concept store open up in Cincinnati - Warehouse B, which offers refurbished and NIB products at significant savings. The Lifespan TR3000i popped up in an email flyer recently and I decided to check it out.

I had never heard of Lifespan - as I was shopping models that could be had at Dicks or Sears, but after seeing the treadmill in person and the fit and finish of materials I was impressed. The Sole and Proform I looked at in Dicks seemed a bit lacking. Amazon reviews seemed promising and a NIB (not a refurbish) price os $799 sealed the deal. We weren't looking for a folding model but it is a bonus and even being a folding model the unit is very sturdy. The treadmill is quiet and the deck has very good cushioning. Even at the $1,499 that Amazon..

Have had this for several weeks. No flaws in workmanship found. Compared to the prior folding treadmills we have had (and worn out with daily use of 7+ miles between 2 of us):

PROS-extraordinarily quiet (no need to increase volume on mp3 player or tv); motor operates smoothly; folds easily; incline operates smoothly; speed and incline controls on handles easy to use; large number of programming options.

CONS-heavy therefore hard to move; saftey disconnect can be accidentally hit and displaced when reach for front hand-hold (unit stops); side hand-holds rather widely separated (my major complaint and hence only 4 stars); plethora of buttons for almost overwhelming number of programming options.

OVERALL-I would buy this one again...but suspect that I will not have to!

We have had this treadmill for about a year and a half now and I use it several times a week, unless we're away or I'm sick. So far, we haven't had any issues at all with it. The original shipment showed up with the boxes broken and a rip in the belt. A repair man came to our house within a week to replace the belt and check to make sure everything else was working just fine.

The lifespan fitness online program is difficult to use and the flash drive has never worked for me. I input my data manually to keep track of it on the computer. The website is pretty slow but otherwise is fine.

As a former personal trainer who missed exercise (3 kids in 4 years) and doesn't feel comfortable taking very young ones to a gym childcare program, this has been a huge help for my fitness routine. I don't get a lot of new information from the website, but I have certifications in nutrition counseling and many different kinds of exercise so I don't feel that I need to read most of what they post. For a beginning to exercise, that is probably helpful. I've noticed, though that most of the people who buy this particular model are looking for durability -- mainly runners. I like to jog about 3 miles a day and my husband also likes to jog about 6-10 miles a week so this treadmill can definitely do the work.

One word of caution to all treadmill users everywhere: stand on the sides when turning a treadmill on and then step onto a moving belt. If you want the motor to last, you will not start the treadmill while standing on it. Asking the motor to move the belt with extra weight is asking for trouble.
