I was looking for a battery power TV expressly for use in case of a a power outage. After reading reviews on several brands of portable TV's from various places, I decided to give this one a try. Battery was fully charged when received.
The first channel scan with the provided antenna didn't pick up anything ,(I live about 20 miles from the closest broadcast tower). I hooked up an old set of rabbit ears that came with a TV that I purchased many years ago, rescanned and picked up 3 channels, one weather station, the local NBC affiliate, and something else. The weather & local news is what is important to me when the power is off, so that is fine. I hooked it to the cable, rescanned and received all my regular cable channels. For emergencies this will work. I am purchasing a 12 volt power supply that runs on 8 D cell batteries as a backup to the internal battery which lasted about 2 hours.
It has a very good picture when hooked up to rabbit ears & maybe even better when hooked to the cable.
Another note: I repositioned the rabbit ears and now get 6 channels.
The power supply I purchased is not available here. [...].
The only negatives: provided antenna & the coax connection is to tight to screw the cable to it. (I solved this with a push on connector that raises the connection enough for easy attachment of cable or antenna).
The picture of this unit posted on Amazon & elsewhere is not the SC-499D. Look at the posted customer images to see the image I posted from the manufactures website.
Update: Amazon has changed the image on their website since I added the one from manufacturers website.

The TV setup procedure was simple. Great little picture and sound adequate for such a small package. The antenna that comes with the TV is useless unless you are say within 1 mile of the transmitter, standing on the roof of your house. I hooked the TV up to my rooftop antenna and scanned in 20+ channels. I tried 4 different indoor digital antennas and had to spend another $36 on the Terk model listed here on Amazon. You must use an amplified antenna. The $36 Terk was just as good as a $65 Radio Shack antenna. Short version is, be prepared to buy a different antenna to be able to use this TV and only then, you're only gonna get 'some' of the channels that a rooftop antenna will get.

I received a slightly different model than pictured for some reason. Pictured is SC499D - I got SC499. The controls are along the sides, the stand is crescent-shaped, and the speakers are in the back. I prefer the look of the one I got. Anyway, I set it up in no time - the scan was easy, and pulled in 42 channels. Beautiful picture and sound. Lots of options, benefits and menus on the remote, just like cable menus. Very impressive. Even a Mute button. Couldn't control volume from the remote on my 7" TV before (can on this).

Only problem I had was the mounting holes on the stand. The 2 screw holes were in the wrong place by 90-degrees. So all I had to do was drill two more small holes in the plastic stand, and then proceed to mount the connecting piece to it with the screws, and attach it to the back of the television. No problem. (So easy, even this 65-year-old woman could do it!) I hope the TV stands up to time and Florida lighting strikes, because it's a nice little TV. I use it in my bathroom when getting ready for work.

Received it from the seller with no problems, and well packaged.

Worth the price...great picture. I pick up 19 channels. Not bad. Lightweight enough and plays DVDs to boot. Love that.

Beware the remote pictured here is NOT the one that comes with the TV, the one they SEND is not so volume or channel friendly as far as knowing where they are when picking up to use. The TV works fine, just the remote control could be better laid out for ease of use, I believe they know this and are substituting this FAKE remote picture, I give this 1 Star because of that misleading picture of the product and remote control, that's just plain deceptive!! I've add a picture from another site showing the actual remote control it does come with..its not laid out like the one pictured on this product ad..

We are glad to have this TV in our kitchen -- helpful at times. But we can't run cable to it without a large expense, so we are stuck with using the antenna and over the air broadcasts. That, of course, limits the number of stations, and, depending on the weather, the picture and sound can mess up greatly. Other times it's fine. The picture itself is ok -- kind of harsh colors -- I have customized the picture quality as best as I could, but it's still not fantastic. It's not terrible, but not that great, either. The sound is atrocious, so I hooked it up using the headphone out jack to a really good Boston radio we have in the kitchen and the sound out of IT is great! But the sound on the TV will annoy you to death. You really need to hook it up to something better (Jambox or other portable speaker or radio, etc.)
