This boot jacket is made of all metal and is extremely sturdy. If you're looking for something to use on work boots, this is the ticket. It's attractive, functional and really grips those boots allowing one to easily remove them.

The problem I had, and the reason I give only 2 stars, is because of the damage it caused to my leather boots. The area of the boot jack between the antennae (the location where the boot heel is placed when removing a boot) needs to be further smoothed or polished as it has burrs (metal flashing left from the casting process I assume) which dug into the leather of my boots as it gripped.

Perhaps having the gripping surface also be made of metal (the entire boot jack is a one-piece metal product) makes for a sturdy product, but in practice may not be such a good thing.

Because it is so heavily made and looks so good, I plan to come up with an idea to make the heel-gripping surface one that will not damage boot heels when used. My plan is to first smooth the surface and then cover with some material to protect the boot heel.

What's to say. It is a boot jack cricket and it works. It works for all ages and all untied footwear. Especially nice for removing snowy winter boots when hands are too cold and wet to cope. It does rust a bit after many years. (This one was a present. Mine is older than dirt.)

I was so happy to find these. Growing up we had a fireplace cricket boot jack and picked one up for myself for a little nostalgia when I purchased my first home. Boyfriend liked mine so much I bought one for his birthday. Nice weight and looks great by the front door! Take off your shoes and boots without bending over!

The Boot Jack Cricket is adorable! It was a gift for my husband who is having trouble leaning over to remove his boots. He loves it! It is much smaller than I thought (only just over 10 inches) but works like a dream. So, it really takes up very little space in the house, and looks like a door stop or part of the room decor. But, being made from wrought iron, it is very sturdy and does what it was designed to do. I would buy it again. It would make a great gift.

My only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner. For years I struggled to remove slick, stubborn garden boots and thought "I need one of those boot jacks". And then promptly forgot about it until the next time I needed to take my boots off.

This one is heavy weight and easy to use. I mostly use it to remove my Hunter boots as others don't put up as much of a fight. The heel fits snugly between the antennas and I place my other foot on the bug's back and pull my boot off with no hassle.

Cast iron cricket to help me take off my rubber boots. When looking around for a boot Jack, I found that many had no idea what I was talking about. There was no chance of finding someone who knew how to take a piece of 1 by 4 and shorter piece of 1 by 1, fit it together and do some cutting and carving a Jack, like my Grandfathers did. Found this little "bug" who is sturdy enough that my grandchildren's grandchildren will be able to use it. (Providing, of course, that it minimal protection from the elements.)
