I ordered 4 of these plates...per other reviews, there is a strong rubber odor which I'm sure is a bit toxic to your health and may be an issue in a closed area. Thankfully, my room has plenty of ventilation. But more importantly, the inside of the opening is unfinished and is very rough; when the temperature is warm it can cause the plates to stick to the equipment surface. I would search elsewhere for a better finished product. If you workout in your garage and your place doesn't get hot during the summer, it will probably work out for you.

I needed 5 lb. plates for my Olympic bar and was really happy to find these. My larger/heavier plates are all rubber but I found it hard to find a 5 lb. version in rubber. I prefer it over metal because it's ok to drop on the gym floor (and probably your toe/finger too... fortunately can't confirm that!). If you happen to be new to purchasing plates like I was, make sure to get a measurement on the size of the hole you need. I originally bought "standard" plates, but realized those have holes that are about an inch smaller than "Olympic" plates.

You should know that the 5 pound weights do NOT have the holes for the grips as shown in the figures. I wish they did, but not worth returning for that.

Works well, but the middle leaves a black smelly residue on the bar. And if you touch the center when you pick up the plate, you'll get the black residue all over your hands. Seems this need a metal insert to prevent this. I would recommend something else.

Well, I don't use this product for the reason it was designed. It is coated with rubber which makes it rust proof and also prevents scratching. I use it to weigh down something I want to soak in a bucket for cleaning. It also gets steady use as a weight on top my Proctor Silex grill with a pot holder under it to weight it down to get thing to cook quicker and for thicker meats.

I like the handles, makes it easier to pick the weight up (especially for my wife). However it is much harder to slide on and off the bar because there is no metal collar on the inside of the center hole. I know I read reviews for other plates with this collar that didn't think theirs would hold up, but since this is for personal use and not a home gym I think the next pair I buy will be the ones with the metal insert.

I've had mine about a month now and they still smell strongly of rubber. It doesn't bother me, but my wife complained about the smell in our basement the other day and it was these weights.

Just picked up another 45 lb. pair to complete my CAP Barbell set. I know I will never use all together, but these are sharp, and well made. If you use a decent rubber cleaner and protector, these plates can last a lifetime. Only drawback is the smell. The rubber smell is a bit overwhelming and takes a long time to go away. Rubber cleaner does help if you clean each plate a few times. Thus the four star rating.
